The punks attitudes towards the RAMONES should have been nothing but respect! Because big label,small label who cares,it's about making music but making true honest music from the heart & not selling out or posing just to get on a major label but if your straight edge like the RAMONES were then they should be applauded & looked up to just like they were by many adoring fans world wide who loved them just for those reasons.

Great post, thanks. Historic because this was just before they conquered the rest of the world. By the way, look at the stack of Marshall's behind Johnny. Wow!! Got to see The Ramones live in CT at Toad's Place in New Haven around 1982-83. When I was in college a few years earlier my friend and I saw my favorite Ramone, Joey, walking down the street alone in the Village. He wasn't hard to spot and Joey graciously stopped to talk to us for a few minutes. All I can say is he was really, really cool. I asked him when they were coming to CT. He said soon. R.I.P. brothers...you are missed all...Stay safe everyone....MAR 21 FL USA.

What a band. I grew up with punk rock in the 70's and 80's. My wife hears the radio version of this and asks....this is punk rock?? She equates punk with Orange County punk rock. I have to explain CB/GB and the Bowery...the time of Pink Floyd and elaborate songs vs the warped DooWop 2 min frantic songs of the Ramones. The look, the sound, the tounge in cheek...the DooWop at warp speed. If anyone has played guitar...Look at the double head...double cab...full stack Marshalls. The sound of that is so intense you might feel like you might die....or certainly have permanent damage from the sound pressures. I have played small clubs with a 50w Marshall head and a 4x12 and people were plugging their ears and I saw one crying. It is intense and frantic. The Ramones are the real deal and more of these live vids should be posted if they are out there. Great band, I love them so.

Just because the Ramones signed a record deal doesn't mean they sold out. A band only sells out when they endorse products, not sign record deals.
@CurtisAlfeld9 жыл бұрын
What about endorsing stuff like guitars and speakers?
@TheOldOakSyndicate9 жыл бұрын
CurtisAlfeld Well that's a question that I still think about to this day. If an artist really like the amps or guitars he or she endorses, and uses them their entire career then I'd say that they are selling out to a certain degree, because they know if they sign that endorsement contract with Fender or GIbson they never have to pay for their favorite instruments or amps ever again. Then there is the artist that will take any endorsement they can get regardless if they like guitars or not, they're just getting any endorsement they can find to get free gear. The next thing you know you see the same band who only 3 short years before couldn't praise the instrument or amp they endorsed enough, only to find them in the present day endorsing and praising some other bottom shelf guitar, and 9/10 these types of bands only play the county fair circuits.
@CurtisAlfeld9 жыл бұрын
***** I disagree. As a player, seeing ads with people like Slash and Kirk Hammett only makes the gear more desirable. The fact that someone was willing to connect their name to the gear is a sign that it's a quality piece of equipment. There are players like Joe Perry who use a large variety of guitars, but I constantly see him in promotional material for Gibsons, while it's very rare to see him in an ad for a different guitar. You never see ads with well established artists endorsing gear that costs $100, because, while they're going to get a ton of free gear, it isn't quality. Seeing them endorsing tooth paste is very different than seeing them endorse an amplifier.

What's more punk, living in squalor and playing to the same tiny circles or joining a major label and spending all their money on drugs and alcohol? :P

the thing to remember is all those artists are human so they're just trying to survive. so you can't blame them for trying to make money to fund their next adventure.
