Problems of feeding lambs from hill-farms in winter. Sheep farming.
Opening shot of hilly landscape (North England ?). Hill farmers face, poor land and harsh climate. Flock of sheep and shepherd. Young ewe-lamb could not find enough food on the hill in winter. Shots of lambs and pens and dry stone wall. Lambs are sent to lowland positions for the winter. Shots of men drawing lambs into trailer. Dogs bark. Truck drives off with load of sheep.
Next scene - sheep leave truck and join cows on lowland field. Farmer visitor then during winter. Wintering on the hills is often replaced with supplementary feedings. Scene of farmer feeding sheep. Another method is to bring the lambs to "in-by" land - nearer the farm. Easier to feed. Scenes of ewe-lambs eating hay. A third way is to winter the lambs in a shed.. Shots of sheep feeding in shed, then running out to field for few hours. Close -up of sheds - ventilator is important. Good designs are described. Mucking out is done once a year. Lambs are seen entering a shed. Sheep are seen feeding and drinking from troughs. (Close-up of feeding lambs).
