Good afternoon Arnie and Lynn. A pretty day on the farm. Not as warm but tolerable. I am with you. I could not go to the sales barn. I would cry because you have put so much care into each and everyone. Isn’t weird when you think something isn’t running and all of a sudden it works again. Bet Arnie was happy with that. The dogs did a pretty good job getting the rams back to the barn. And they seemed to really listen to your commands. Good job pups. Then how fun to end with the running of the lambs. Nothing better. Cupcake is looking good. Love her but then Chewy is one of my absolute favorites. The Dorsets lambs had some really pretty faces and you big boy you had to get out of the coverall had such a handsome face. What a ram. And the cute guy running with his curly tail is so darn cute. All that cuteness today was great. And hopefully the ram feeling yucky gets better. Big hugs to you both. 🥰🥰🥰

My bottle lamb knows her name. She can hear is talking and when we say her name she runs up to us. We use the moldy hay as year round mulch for veggie garden. It keeps the weeds back and as it breaks down fertilizes the ground. It's turning our sandy soil into nice black dirt. We also unroll bad bales on spotty pasture to breakdown and reseed. It is most defiantly devastating when you need that hay for feed though.

Hi Lynn, I love the lambs running in Slow-motion. Looked like they were running straight to you and then making a big turn right before they run you over. They are so funny when they hop up in the air like that. Yep that lamb looks too big to have a bottle, but what the heck, by all means spoil that lamb all you want!! LoL ❣🌴

Great time at Ewetopia Farms today. Sorry about the moldy hay, what a loss. Ben and Max were great help moving the ram lambs back to the coverall, they really listened to you. The running of the lambs was most enjoyable. I really like the large triplet ram bottle baby! I think he wants to move to Wisconsin 😉. Have a great week and thanks again for another great video!

lovely video! I'm challenging myself to make it a short email today. I remember asking about Chewy, and if you would be crossing her with a suffolk or a dorset, but because she was part of the fall group, she'd be with a Dorset. But now that you've decided NOT to breed for fall lambs, will you reconsider who she gets bred with? I'm betting that she and your British Style Suffolk ram would make some super-cute babies. It'd be interesting to see what the three-quarters Suffolk lambs look like. Just curious. I think that Chewy has a uniquely elegant look to her. Her gorgeous face is much more obvious without the wonderful Suffolk ears.
@EwetopiaFarms
@EwetopiaFarms Жыл бұрын
Not sure who Chewy will go with in the fall. We had her in the Dorset group because she would breed out of season but now she is big enough to go with either breed. We will have to wait and see!😁😉

Sorry about the spoiled hay. Just wondering about the two lambs with undocked tails, are they automatic culls? We had a lamb that we didnt expect to live and we didnt dock his tail. Later we had it docked in surgery. That would be too expensive to think about
@EwetopiaFarms
@EwetopiaFarms Жыл бұрын
No, it does not mean automatic culls. For some reason both those lambs had the elastic break off somehow. There is no need to dock tails. It is purely cosmetic and personal preference. It doesn't affect breeding at all. So if they are good enough to be breeders, they will stay regardless of tails.

Hi just watched your video about your hay how many layers of film did you get put on them as I never see this happening to hay in the UK we always put 24 time round when wrapped your sheep look in really good condition
@EwetopiaFarms
@EwetopiaFarms Жыл бұрын
Hi Lewis. Arnie actually does 18 times round which is 4 layers. How many layers is yours? We are going to try 6 layers next year which would be your 24 times round. Our bales are about 50 inch round. How big are your bales?

What is the disease that sheep get from eating moldy hay? I heard it last year lambing but can't find who posted it 😢 Hopefully none of your sheep get ❣
@EwetopiaFarms
@EwetopiaFarms Жыл бұрын
Listeriosis. That is why we throw so much hay away. Sheep have no tolerance for mold
@Saskrancher
@Saskrancher Жыл бұрын
Hello I'm from Saskatchewan and just started watching your channel. My question is, the hay looks like it was put up dry or is it haylage. If it is dry why do you wrap it. If it is dry and you wrap it then any place that night have moisture will spoil, if it's haylage then wrapping it will make it silage. I see this lots in Ontario not common practice here with dry hay.
@EwetopiaFarms
@EwetopiaFarms Жыл бұрын
This year, we did wrap sine dry hay because we had nowhere to store it. All that hay is perfect. It is the wetter hay that we are having problems with now.

I was wondering, there was a lamb the whole time was coffing... perhaps it was that lamb... I hope he pulls true. It's what you are saying you put all the work and love in it... so let's hope he pulls true. Why you don't make those long sleeves? Like with sandy... isn't that cheaper? Or less quality? Thanks for another video... ❤❤❤
@EwetopiaFarms

The long ones are definitely something we don't want. Twice as much mess. Plus I think she puts chopped hay in hets for TMR and we don't do that here - too expensive 🙂
@annnoyez

@Ewetopia Farms ah okay... I dont know nothing about things like that. I mean big piles... I use to give them also hay, buy we stack it in the barn where it is dry... was enough to get trough winter. And from end of februari depends on the weather conditions they were outside. As long it doesn't rain to much and they had a shelter it's okay. Just the wet periods were not good for them. Sheep and goats don't like it when their feet got wet...

I just wondering if there isn't another solution for that hay. It hurts that you lose so much. At least it still can be used for the cows. Lucky to have a neighbor like that that can use it. But what a waste for the sheepies. You are talking about alfa alfa. Is that a special kind of hay? Better quality? I here a lot about that but I really don't know what it is. We don't have it here... not that I know of...

@@annnoyez Lynn can elaborate but the TMR acronym stands for "total mixed ration." It is when the hay, grain and minerals, added vitamins and proteins are all mixed together.
