While waiting for a connecting flight at Gatwick airport Jim sat down beside an elderly gentleman , he had been a fighter pilot in training at RAF Ballyhalbert !

Really enjoyed this episode and it’s particularly poignant for us since my wife’s Dad flew for the Royal Canadian Air Force in WWII. The footage of the local area is spectacular ❤

Bit of a coincidence that I should bump into Canadian folk on holiday who had a relative that was a WW2 pilot when that was what this weeks story was about ! , nice to have met you , have a great holiday .. Ivan

Fascinating video thanks. It is amazing when you run into someone when out and about that you don’t know and find you have common ground. It is a pity mankind didn’t learn from that time of war to live peaceably together as we are still knocking the stuffing out of each other all over the world. The earth is the Lords and the fullness thereof - Psalm 24. It doesn’t belong to us in the first place. We were to be the keepers / caretakers and look after it - Genesis ch 1+2. Sadly we haven’t done that great a job.

That was a great episode and thanks to Jim Galloway. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the last photo of the intro reel. The couple getting married (on the left hand side) are my Mum & Dad, Jim & Maimie Filson. I don’t remember who his best man was, but the Maid of Honour was Helen Bowden, my mums cousin. I’m proud to say that my Dad also was stationed at RAF Ballyhalbert for a period during WW2 and flew Spitfires mainly during the conflict.

Thanks David, the best man was Samuel Mckee our next door neighbour ... I intended to cover your dad's story, if you would like it told of course , if so you can let me know. I have a few stories of Samuel McKees to do relating his war time memories around Glastry which were recorded when he was still with us ! Regards Ivan🛩 🛩

Ivan, when we were clearing our back garden we found a piece of an RAF cup. We were told that the pilots were billeted in our house. True enough, upstairs there are four small ‘rooms’ with slatted areas for we presume, beds all off the main room. Strange layout. I’d love to know for sure. Loved this interview. Such a pity they didn’t share names and contact details!
