Sheep Prolapse - Simple Solution

With lambing approaching, prolapse is an annual problem that occurs on most sheep farms. This video shows a simple solution to a sheep prolapse using a rope trick I learned from a Vet a few years back after a ewe that was stitched ripped the stitches after continually pressing!
I used a needle and tape to stitch ewes for a while but found it a horrific solution and only use the rope now.

been using the rope homemade harness for years, a sprinkle of white sugar on the prolapse helps it going back in I usually don't wash certainly not with cold water use lukewarm , if help was available (wishful thinking) I'd roll the ewe over & lift her by the hind legs and very little pressure needed , , watching youtube etc I am surprised by so many seasoned sheep people still stitching and using spoons , great video, good luck with the lambing , down to the last 20 here

@@Coolcronani have not heard of this before, vets used to use sugar to help return a prolapsed inverted uterus post partum. Sometimes seen in cows.

That's a new one for me for a vaginal prolapse. This is definitely a sheep school day. I was taught the rolling on the back, elevating the hind end and sugar technique for a uterine prolapse, works great. But then sutured the vulva. This rope technique is far less invasive. Thanks so much for sharing! Also love your portable headstall!

Very well presented David , every shepherd is confronted with this and we find its from older ewes and when checking previous years lambing records its older ewes with multiple births or perhaps from a hard pull from before. Rope popular for many flocks although need to be careful with underleg rubbing.We use the harness ,and wee a bit of Milton to clean the prolaspe. Great advert for the headstock .Good luck

You need to get her to pee first ! Just lift up prolapse and let her pee it then reduces in size by half and is so much easier to put back in 😊

Finally someone that knows what they’re talking about!!!! All the rest of it is old wives tales. The only reason a prolapse goes tight and so big is trapped urine. As you said, simply lift it upwards and gently move from side to side, moving it around…..soon as the pee starts flowing the prolapse will reduce to bugger all. I can’t believe that it’s not known by 99%. Even the bloody vets don’t know about it and will stand in amazement when I show them!!!!

Before putting back the prolapse you should release the urine and it would b much easier on the sheep to put it back in

I think I would find your yoke very handy for a lot of things, but my trusty halter served me very well. Lucky to have a seafaring husband who is very good at splicing ropes and making them. I would prefer to use Cetavlon (Savlon) as it is an obstetric antiseptic and non astringent. You should be able to get a large can of concentrate at the farm store. Expensive but lasts a very long time and you can use it on the humans as well. I also marked the ewe for cull so that it didn’t get forgotten later.I always hoped that my culls did actually go for cull and not bought by someone putting her through misery, hoping to get another lamb out of her

Savlon specifically, any other will take you down a precarious road. In fact any disinfectant that turns white when diluted is irritant.

При такой манипуляции, овца продолжает дуться - видно как она горбится. Нужно хорошо обмыть можно марганцовкой (розовой) и вправить всё на место. При этом важно расправить рога матки внутри рукой. Иначе схватки будут продолжаться и животное будет стараться выдавить всё назад. Если всё правильно сделать то овца успокоится и достаточно прошить края в одном месте для подстраховки. Уколоть антибиотик и снять шов через 3-4 дня. Проверено много раз. В последующие года овцы котились и ничего не выпадало.

У моей овцы не раскрылся шейка матки и егнёнок умер, по совету вет врача я достал ягнёнка, было сложно в первой, всё было норм с овцой на спустя пару часов вывалился матка, я так и не смог заправить, так как не видел на практике как это делается, случайно наткнулся на этой видео, спасибо вам за советы!

there is a higher chance in sheep that have went through tail docking and mulesing , prolapsing so i would not do both of those procedures or buy sheep that have went through because of cost , health, stress, risk of cancer and prolapse and many other factors, it is very old practice just like how surveys of medical professionals conducted as recently as 1986 indicated that infants younger than 15 months were still receiving no pain relief during surgery in many hospitals across the U.S. if martin luther king jr and Abraham Lincoln can stop slavery.......then why can't we help make ourselves better? why can't we let light over the subjects that are hard for us to believe or except ? doctors find new illnesses but it takes' years because its only one lab , if we join together then we will survive while caring for our loved ones , our friends , co-workers, animals , pets , livestock ,the homeless , prisoners , the sick , the ones that have allergies to food or animal by products , our sons and daughters , the people that has terminal illness , the random kids that you play on your street, we need to take care of our food like if it was our new born baby because your going to have to take care of it ,
