Sheep Shearing - Levi The Horse Comes Back

Sheep shearing is always an exciting day on the farm seeing the sheep without their wool and able to get a good scratch in. We bag up the wool and invite the public to process it into yarn and felt balls during the winter. Levi, the miniature horse that was re-homed last year, came back due to a land dispute where he was no longer able to graze on the field he was on. Welcome Home Levi! This past week we lost three goats, Patches and her two little ones passed away likely from an infection with Patches that put a strain on her kids, all three will live on in our memories.

Also that’s the most freedom I’ve ever seen a sheep have while being Shorn. He was a little wiggly but you were OK with it. I like it. Also love when you guys talk to the sheep about almost being done with their shave. Shows humanity.

Not sure, he has since retired. Usually it is a trade that is past down to younger generations. Experience alone (and proper equipment) plays a big part after learning the basics.

Hello mark and tara.... i told u about my peacocks....they are 2 years old....peahen laid 9 eggs and out of 9 i gave 5 eggs to my broody hen....i candled them at day 7 and only one out of 5 eggs is fertile.... thanks for your help....☺☺😊😊

Dirt will affect speed, amount of lanolin as well. Type of sheep. Alot to consider

You would be looking at about $15 to $25 per day depending on the time of year not including vet care that may be required.

I think you guys do a fab job. I was wondering how do you dispose of their dead carcusses? I am sure its done in a humane fashion as you do everything else. Just wondering. Also, is there any info on how youre funded and maintain this great farm?

When our animals pass they use to be buried on the property but now are either cremated or donated for science. Our funding mainly comes from our visits to the farm ($5 per person) or our Goat Yoga classes at $25 per person. It's been a slow start this year due to the pandemic.

What breed are your sheep? It feels so freeing to watch them be shorn. I remember how free my head felt after having it shaved for St. Baldrick’s. It was just getting hot out where we were, and boy did getting all that hair off feel good. All that lovely wool makes me itch to get spinning again.

Sheep wool continuously grows and needs to be trimmed every year or two depending on the animal and breed.
