John Dee Kennedy (1914-1997), in his prime, was considered by many to be the best breakdown fiddler in Pawnee and Osage Counties, Oklahoma. In a generation where most of his contemporaries were playing more modern fiddle styles, John perpetuated an older family and community tradition that can be traced through the mountains of Arkansas back to eastern Kentucky in the 19th century. Recording by Linda Higginbotham in 1982. More recordings of John are available through the Field Recorders Collective, FRC738.
John's cousin Ed Guthrie (the other man in the photo) can be heard discussing the tune with John at the end of the recording.

Great tune! Same family as Bell Cow from Harvey Taylor and Yearlings in the Canebreak from M J Bonner, I think.
