Sheepshead Bay is located as far south into Brooklyn as one could get, but its distance from the city's epicenter has not stopped the borough’s development boom from grabbing hold of the neighborhood. But some developers and brokers in the area are concerned the residential building boom could be precipitating an office shortage.
The Real Deal recently went down to Sheepshead Bay to see some of the new residential projects and talk to local players about what the lack of commercial development could mean for the neighborhood's growth.

@@Mercuryluvzcats getting modernized, which is normal and part of the way the world works but its upsetting. El Greco, which was a wonderful diner has been replaced by a massive condo with restaurants and bars. The massive condo was built, etc.

I moved to the area at a time when Waldbaums and El Greco was still there. I actually miss Waldbaums with all those discounts.

More higher buildings condos and apartments means more people and cars...means less parking more traffic..its too much for an area that was private homes...people today own 2 or more cars...front lawns have become driveways...its ugly !!

that's is why sheepshead bay is getting gentrify with shuttered mom&pop stores & 1,2 & 3 family homes are disappearing in Brighton Beach. cause by higher rents/taxes/water & sewer rates

It really was. My grandparents lived on 17th and Z. The little house next to the gas station. She worked at the Laundromat on 19th and Y and he lived on the boats.

Once upon a time there was a quaint fishing village and beach community that was home to mostly mom and pop shops and families could afford to live in. It was a FUN place to live and play. The streets were clean. English was the predominant language. And it was not overcrowded, even with many apartment buildings. The character of this neighborhood has been stripped, sadly.
