Sheffield Wednesday - A Club Surrounded By Chaos

I've been weighing up recording this video on Sheffield Wednesday for a couple of weeks, with the statement released by Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri imploring supporters to give over their own money to fund a £2m bill the club owed a couple of weeks back acting as the blue-touch paper for my explosion of interest.
Chansiri has been in control at Hillsborough since January of 2015 and when I say that his time in the boardroom has been a wild roller-coaster ride, I fear I'm underselling the chaos to you as a neutral observer.
Throughout my conversations with Wednesday fans in researching this video, I've been left genuinely stunned by the extent to which Chansiri has played fast and loose with the club's long-term future and as we sit in 2023, quite aside from the relegation battle they currently find themselves in the middle of, legitimate concerns over whether or not the club will still exist in 12-24 months' time are sat firmly in the forefront of many of their supporters' minds.

Thanks for adding this . As a Swfc I like many of the fan.base are in such apathy of what is happening there is no light at the end of the tunnel he has killed our club. But I still keep going because its my club.

Thank you for this great insight for those that may not fully understand just how crazy this man is and what he is doing to our football club. I really hope much more awareness comes of this situation and that some kind of action is taken against him or that we somehow get new ownership - that in itself would be a logistical nightmare.

There's a reason he's not employed in the family business, they know he is completely inept and useless as a business man, and don't want him anywhere near the Thai Union Group. He's given pocket money to keep him busy and out of the way. Unfortunately he chose us as his play thing. Thanks for your review on the situation, something needs to change and change fast regarding fit and proper owners. By no means is it just us, there's a lot of clubs and communities who will suffer unless things change soon

I imagine from there it looks like a prosperous place, and he has no idea the massive vistas of poverty and deprivation across East Sheffield where I live. As for ticket prices early season ticket prices are around lower end of lg, last 2 home games it's cost £40 for me & son, not that expensive & attendance still doesn't rise like he has said the more we sell the less he's able to charge. Dtaxis was a legitimate business all radio equipment was bought & premises leased but deal with city taxis fell through, elev8 is a company they also make protein shakes but are mainly American based. He isn't part of TUG but is a 7% shareholder, he has business links to family business you'd find them in tug accounts. As said you'll not get an honest assessment from our fans because of position were in. He's made mistakes, he's had some odd ideas to generate income which in days of mandric & before has been an issue for Wednesday chairmans to generate but he isn't as bad as some make out. Also asking fans to pay bills isn't accurate it was something he suggested that could be done if necessary & they'd be interest given in return, Moore left because he got greedy on his mediocre success. And I'm not a burner account or part of chansiri family I'm a Wednesdayite that sees things logically without letting anger cloud my judgment.

hi I'm a Wednesday fan and had a season ticket for the past 15 years apart from this year as I've had enough of him, I wont be buying another season ticket until he leaves the club as its just one thing after another with him. The only thing that Chansiri has done for Wednesday is to install a new pitch and scoreboard, apart from that he has taken the club backwards, In my opinion there is no hope of Wednesday making any true progress while ever he is in charge. I can genuinely see Wednesday in division two within the next couple of seasons. Chansiri is an arrogant totally clueless man.

Excellent analysis of the disaster that has been Chansiri, for me it's clear he's run out of money and hasn't got the funds to run a club of Wednesday's size. I think he thought he'd be able to get us back into the Premiership quickly, and to be fair we were 90 minutes away from that dream. But once we failed that, the rest has been a nightmare. I hope he sells us as soon as possible, but I cannot see it - Cheers for the show

Apparently behind the scenes Chansiri rules with an iron fist. Nobody at the club has the power to make any decisions no matter how small they are, everything must go through him, (almost to the point of permission to change a light bulb). He is truly a power mad arrogant man. I genuinely believe Wednesday will soon be a diversion two club.

I can't believe the year he forgot to order the kits didn't make it into the video.......yes that did happen and yes it is that bad. Thanks for the vid and highlighting our plight. If there is one thing that could and should unify football fans it is protecting the survival of our clubs. Too many have suffered and more will follow until the day the game is regulated effectively.

Chansiri does not seem to understand the concept of a football club being a community asset. He sees SWFC as belonging to him, which of course in legal terms it does, but that makes him the great benefactor and father figure that knows what is best. Unarguable facts in a good video. It becomes a spiral too because Wednesday fans are unable to dream of a better run club so we're fated to have a badly run club. For instance he said chansiri asked fans to put in to clear HMRC debt, that wasn't case he gave an example of what could be done if necessary. There's a huge difference but when you tell it factually it doesn't look as bad nor click worthy
