So, it's not possible to give free advice always. Time is precious. When a doctor gives free advice, and then the patient don't follow the advice, this is when doctor regrets giving free advice.

Imams who lead prayers in the masjids are also liable and bound to perform 5 daily prayers that they can do anywhere. But he is being paid so that he does it regularly and on time on a daily basis in an appointed masjid. So, no harm asking for a remuneration, but the amount is something acceptable and affordable to both sides.

There is also a hadith that forbids the taking of money for teaching Quran or eating food from the teaching of Quran and another that essentially curses one on yawm Al qiyamah with a ring of fire around the neck for taking payment in the form of a box, I wouldn't say it is exclusive to the bow as the previous hadith is distinct and clear. The one you refer to isn't holistic as the Prophet SAW wasn't present at the transaction and we don't know what happened after the Prophet asked them to distribute the Sheep, perhaps the Prophet asked the people to sheer them as a penalty for taking them and they went out to see if they could return them in better condition? The other one I have seen “You are perfectly entitled to take wages for Allaah’s Book.” appears to be fabricated as I'm pretty certain that it wasn't codified into a book during the lifetime of the Prophet as they only began to start putting it on stone tablets near to his death.

It is not Halal, only the muafiqs teach or lead for anything other than the pleasure of Allah. If there is a Religious duty to be conducted and it cannot be conducted without financing then finance or Qadr Allah or a Jizya can be used or taken or requested transparently and honestly. For example if ones potatoes haven't yielded as expected and ones efforts in trading aren't sufficient to stay healthy and alive to serve Allah. This is the fatawa to be incorporated, please let them all know.

I think the argument of charging would only hold valid when he is making bare minimum for survival. Anything beyond that using religion would only give a wrong impression to those who are not very rich. Counter argument that can be given - Doesn't the shaikh have right to make good amount of money and live a good lifestyle? Yes he has, but Allah will me more pleased if he gives up that to please Allah. Living a posch lifestyle would only make one not reachable to the poor. If that was the case why did not prophet lived a very expesive lifestyle. My understanding is if Allah swt would have made prophet a rich ruler, the poor would not have found any resemblance of their problems in him. When we talk out that prophet and sahaba survived on only dates and water for months together and when they ( scholars) ask us to practice their practices why not they do this themselves also. As long as your are meeting your bare minimum you charge the moment its met all the service should be done only to please your creator.
