With the last ten nights of Ramadan now upon us, it’s common to see many dua lists being shared with friends and family. Alhumdulillah. Sadly, few if any of these lists express even the slightest yearning for the restoration of the Khilafah Rashida. As depressing as this may be, it’s hardly surprising seeing how Muslims have been conditioned for generations to internalise a western colonial understanding of Islam, according to which the Caliphate is a relic of a bygone age and Islam amounts to nothing more than mundane ethical codes, rituals and abstract ideals, no different to Christianity and other faiths. To make matters worse, a secularised Islam has been adopted by several contemporary Muslim scholars and celebrity duaat, many of whom rate the Caliphate as very low in the order of religious priorities. This beggars belief, given the centrality of the Khilafah in the Islamic tradition and how its existence could function as a catalyst to address fundamental social, economic, moral and spiritual problems at the core of our human predicament. So please remember to add the following supplication to your dua list before forwarding to others: “Oh Allah, hasten the return of the Khilafah Rashida and endow me with the potential and willpower to work towards its restoration”. -Hasnat Asad
