Yes, Neneh was a big Prince fan, and the same style came back in the 00s with M.I.A. and even Rhianna Rude Boy period. BTW later on Prince hired Neneh Cherry's director/photographer and close-friend Jean-Baptiste Mondino to direct his I Wish U Heaven video and to create the famous Love Sexy cover art photo.
