For starters Houlihan's team has already admitted (after basically lying by inference in their press conference) that the burrito in question wasn't pork, it was beef (carne asada) that was somehow "tainted" with pork. Which they can't prove btw, we are just supposed to believe that's what happened. Not that it matters because the study they keep referring to about pork raising nandralone levels enough to pop positive involved the subjects ingesting 310 grams (over half a pound) of offal(livers, kidneys, etc) from uncastrated boar meat which is practically impossible to get in the USA and certainly not from a food truck in Portland. So we're supposed to believe 10 hours before the testers showed up poor innocent Shelby just "happened" to eat a beef burrito that actually contained over half a pound of offal from an uncastrated boar? Sure buddy...

It's not even about synthetic because tests don't differentiate between the 2. Its about how high the levels were. I know of no such disorder and cannot find one online. Might be a 1 in 8 billion disorder lol.

It might just be possible that eating some part of a male pig could have brought about the positive test - but is it even remotely likely? No doubt any positive test, for similar substances, could be explained away by some similar explanation. So many questionable statements by the athlete herself. If she isn't interested in money why does she run for the most ruthless, money orientated sports company in history? She could run for a company that has higher moral standing - but which wouldn't pay as much! Coach and athlete never heard of nandralone? This I simply cannot believe. Surely as an experienced coach he should have examined the list of banned substances, if only to make sure that his athletes don't make silly mistakes in their everyday lives, where he would have come across the banned substance. If we are to believe the coach every US athlete who tests positive is the victim of a huge injustice - but it's OK to ban athletes from all other countries. The IAAF banned all Russian athletes on the basis that some of them tested positive. Never heard these coaches protesting about the injustice of that -but maybe the ban helped their athletes win medals and top rankings?

Lying is appropriate when the general public knows literally nothing about the topic in question. If you're a professional athlete you have a single-minded, almost religious focus on optimizing performance on some date or range of dates in the future. Basically nothing else matters, and if you're not doing everything you possibly can to optimize performance, you're just choosing to take a hit in an insanely top-heavy rewarded competitive structure. The top ends of doping reference ranges have to be quite liberal to account for large potential natural variation. The true legality of doping is to simply be under the reference ranges, not to have none of the hormones in question. Under the reference range? legal. Over? illegal. Simple. Athletes microdosing PEDs actually just has the effect of leveling out the playing field from some natural variation (at the highest levels of competition), in a relatively safe manner. There are only about 100 elite-level competitive athletes in the world in any event at any given time, who the hell cares what they do to optimize performance? It doesn't affect the general public, or even the vast majority of serious hobbyists. Meanwhile, the response from the public is everything to the professional athlete. Admitting this at the current time would mean cutting funding, and a bunch of unnecessary bs. Instead it's much more reasonable for her and her coach to protect their livelihoods, and probably the integrity of the whole team by lying about something that is not even unethical, and none of the public's business anyways.
@christianondo96373 жыл бұрын
If it’s not allowed, then it’s inherently unethical for her to dope because it puts those who don’t cheat at a disadvantage and devalues their hard work. If it is allowed, then everyone does it and then it’s completely fair. Also, just because it doesn’t affect the public doesn’t mean that it’s not unfair to her fellow competitors. What she’s done is wrong and her attempts to make excuses are pathetic.
@firefight333 жыл бұрын
@@christianondo9637 I'm arguing that it's an unavoidable dilemma. The reference ranges for naturally produced hormones in the body like testosterone have to include the very high end of natural levels, and then produce a very low false positive rate in those people. As a normal athlete you can actually take considerable amounts of PEDs and still have a very low chance of being detected. Probably we can do better by following historical individual hormone levels, rather than letting everyone fall under the same standard. As far as inherent unfairness goes, what about people too poor to travel for altitude training? Or access to great coaches, PT's and training facilities? What about shoe sponsors? What about being genetically gifted with high test levels? What about the time they allowed intersex athletes to compete in women's events? There is little that is fair about competing in athletics at a high level. I'd argue that this actually promotes fairness by normalizing hormone variability, and since access to PEDs are not too hard to come by.
@christianondo96373 жыл бұрын
@@firefight33 you missed my point. I’m saying that purely by virtue of something being prohibited, it is inherently unfair for her to use it. All of the things you pointed out are completely legal. If you think this stuff should be legal then that’s a completely separate conversation. The point is that because they are currently not allowed, she has gained an advantage over those not willing to break the rules. The fact that a rule-breaker gains an advantage over a rule-follower in this scenario is obviously morally wrong.
