I am now 68 years old and retired from trucking in 2005. Did a similar thing chaining and was also over Donna except I hit my jawline and actually broke it and was wired shut for 6 weeks. Your throwing chains is impressive. Take care of yourself and feel better.

Shelby, You can at times (thru the years that I've kind a know you threw YT) be hard on yourself, even in the beginning of this video Dakota was trying to calm you down (yes I know Dakota is a give me attention seeker, but our 4 legged family members know when need Love) You are an amazing person with so much positivity that you try at times too hard on yourself. You should NOT be embarrassed, 1 of your many goals for even having your YT channel was to educate the younger folks and maybe some older 1's, so this is was a teaching moment, and although you got a George Forman shiner, you still look amazing. You and your 4 legged co-driver truckem up safe and as always Keep the rubber side down.

It hurts me that you got hurt. It's not easy, girl. We feel immortal until we don't and this job reminds us of this more frequently than we'd like. I fell out my truck, slipped on the last step, and hit the ground on my back. A couple veins busted in my leg and never healed right.
@Bendigo1 Жыл бұрын
Really glad you are ok. That was a NASTY bump. I have been made fun of for it, but I started wearing a hard hat (a bump cap would probably be better) when I was working around and under the truck for that exact reason. I am a lot taller than you are too so I tend to hit the underside of the trailer a lot more when messing with chains. It has saved my head multiple times. As for the getting those chains tight. Unless you have the hook tool that grabs the hook and pulls it through, it is almost impossible to get them as tight as you want them to be on all the wheels. But one way to get them a bit tighter is to go one hook more or less on the inside and yank like crazy to get a little more to play with on the outside. And a major issue with that type of chain is that even a little bit more wear on one tire than the others means you may not be able to get the same link as on the other tires. Your drive tires wear un evenly because of the scrubbing when you are turning and the different weight distribution between the front and rear drive axles. Unless they are brand new tires, usually the front axle will have a slightly larger tire circumfrence and can make the chains have a difference of anywhere between 1 and 3 links.

That looks very painful! Glad you’re ok. My first time chaining up in Oregon I broke my finger. The pain just made everything more frustrating when I made mistakes of putting my chains on inside out and backwards. They were those crappy cable chains from my company. After I got them all on right, I checked the current chain up order…and they ended it! So I took my chains back off and drove through Deadman Pass. I didn’t realize at the time that I had a hairline fracture in my finger, but it hurt for 2 months!

Omg girl! You are so much braver than I. Trucking in the winter is bad enough just doing regional from out of WI and going home weekly but going thru mountains and chaining and everything else in that arena is too scarey for this 61 yr old, 3 yrs experience, grandmother. It gets tough just driving in such crap, having snow under an empty , king pin release not working, wiper issues, front camera covered in snow/ice knocking out any cruise option, trying to keep windows from fogging without cooking to death, knocking ice off trailer door hinges or trying to, just to get doors open, trying to pull king pin handle on ice, move tandems back at receiver on snow n ice... impossible...etc. etc etc You are absolutely amazing and then more amazing to me! I'm so glad it wasn't more serious. Praying for safe travels for all of us. 🩷

Here in Europe, every trucker, whether self-employed or not, would have gone straight to the doctor and not only had a comprehensive check-up for free or little money, but as an employee also got as many paid sick days as necessary. But unfortunately, the richest country in the world has a health system that the third world would be ashamed of. Shelby, it happens and I’m glad you’re okay although a little bruised and lumped up. Early on in my husband’s career (early 90’s) he somehow managed to hit his head and was literally knocked senseless. He had our young son with him at the time. He was in the middle of nowhere when this happened. My son called the ambulance and I rushed to the both of them as quickly as I could. He was walking around in a fog for about a week. Honestly at a point I thought he may of had permanent damage. Thank Goodness this wasn’t the case. I’m sorry you had to experience this and especially being ALONE!! Let me tell you, you are crushing the trucking game!! You are a better driver than most on the road today!! You know your shi*t and have helped and inspired many young truckers young and old. Hello just a bit of advice for chains, when using the tire chain bungee place the metal hooks facing OUT since facing IN can rub on the tire wall and there is a higher chance of ruining your tire, this is a bit of old timer advice that i was given when i started driving and since i have seen bungees destroy tarps when you place them facing in i have always followed it when putting chains on.

Even with a bump you still managed to keep that smile going, but as others have said, is always wise to get a head injury checked out. Dizziness, sickness and concussion are not to be taken lightly after a bump like that - especially given what you are in charge off. It might seem as if you are ok in the immediate time after doing it but symptoms can quickly overtake you. In my early twenties I slipped and banged my head (with some force) against our then house brick wall, aside from picking myself up I don't remember anything of the next 14 hours. Glad you are the mend, take it easy until your ready to go again.

God Bless You - Been following you for a while now. I Think that you are a fantastic young woman and I appreciate all that truck drivers go through to make their deliveries. Stay safe out there.

Glad your healing up. And don't feel like the lone ranger. I too have been the victim of smoking the crap out of my head under a trailer. Couple times.
