She was just being a little brat and honestly needed an a** whooping. Jeff may have been a jerk about the whole pregnancy thing, but that doesn't mean he can't change. He helped Connie get her stuff after the tornado destroyed her home. And he decided not to snitch on her for the gambling room because he felt like she had endured enough. He was genuine in that he was upset George died and was trying to give comfort to the family. Missy was only thinking about herself and felt like only her grief mattered. Like FFS Missy, Sheldon hates religion to the core yet he went through the baptism. If that was my daughter, she would pay dearly for being rude and storming out like that. I understood how upset Missy was over losing her father and she was coping with her grief by being mad at the World. However, that wasn't cool how she was being so disrespectful towards Pastor Jeff and her Mother and storming out the way she did, also reneging on her promise to get baptized. It wasn't just disrespectful towards her Mother, but her Grandmother who begged her and Sheldon to do it in order to help their Mother feel better. But I was touched by Sheldon by him choosing to stay and honoring his Mother and his Meemaw's wishes. And I just died laughing with him coming out in that scuba gear for the baptism. Even though he didn't do it often, it did show that there were times he would put his own personal feelings aside to try to make people closest to him happy.

@ianandersen2654 ай бұрын
@@peruvianpuffpepper904 Chuck Lorre is hugely inconsistent in how he depicts Mary. Mary in TBBT claimed to attend a church with Pentecostal healing obsessions. In the phone call with Sheldon about Mary's ring, Mary's views of the whole Jesus Mary Magdalene thing is way off the mark. Also, it is very clear throughout the series that both Mary and Pastor Jeff are not the best communicators. Even though George Sr technically got baptized according to this series, George Sr was all throughout the series initially indifferent toward, and eventually hostile towards the Christian church, particularly Mary's Church. George Sr pushed for Mary to join a different church, but Mary refused. Even when they show a "better" church pastor like Rob, they turn Rob into a small sleazebag who shows interest in Mary but they never have a sexual affair.

There's doing an activity to make your parent happy and then there's forced indoctrination which is what Mary and then Meemaw was doing with Sheldon and Missy. Baptism isn't just sucking it up and going to church with your mother or spending the entire day with her doing activities she likes. It's a religious ceremony that symbolises your committment to the faith of christianity. Missy had every right to not want to do it. But she was clearly guilted into it by Connie. However, once she was there and heard what Pastor Jeff said she didn't want to be there anymore because her feelings of anger would not be washed away with the baptism. I really disagree with how they portray that it's ok for Mary to have done this. It's consistent for her character. But the fact that nearly everyone backs her up just because it'll make her feel better makes me annoyed that hardly anyone sees sense in how wrong it is to do that.

This comment section is unbelievable. Missy literally just lost her dad, the person she was closest to out of everyone in her family. Of course she’s going to take it harder than everyone else. And also they literally tried to guilt trip her into getting baptized in the first place. This was more important for Mary rather than being there for her own daughter. It’s absolutely insane anyone is even on Mary’s side here. She’s selfish through and through. At least Missy was willing to put in the effort to help her mom grieve by getting baptized. She only left because Pastor Jeff was being a hypocrite. The church has literally abandoned their family so many times so of course Missy’s going to get upset when they try to act like they always cared. They are literally showing the reason why Missy is the way she is in the Big Bang Theory. She lost the only person in the world who understood her.

At the end of the day, George Sr was Missy’s rock. And when you lose your rock, your anchor, especially when you’re a teenage girl dealing with all sorts of complicated physical and mental changes, it doesn’t end well. Every single girl I went to school with, INCLUDING myself, was a mess between the ages of 13 and 18. We had different messes depending on our personalities and home lives, but everything felt out of place and nothing ever seemed to make sense. So we were all ticking time bombs. And this was WITHOUT losing our parents! Sheldon and Missy handled their grief in two different ways, neither of them helpful. Missy lashed out at everyone while Sheldon bottled his up and never allowed himself to process that pain. As for the comments section, YS isn’t the only show where a teenage girl is held up to unreasonable standards by fans. In every show I’ve come across, commenters are so much harder on teen girl characters, putting so much more hate on them than GROWN ADULT characters who’ve done far worse. Yet while their characters are hated and trashed, the actresses themselves are often sexualised despite being only a few years older than said character. It makes me wonder how these “fans” treat teenage girls in their own families and social circles.

Pastor Jeff is awful as usual, and he comes off as the worst person in this clip. Mary is bad, but it’s understandable as she is grieving the loss of her husband. What Pastor Jeff should have done is tell Mary that, according to the Baptist Church, baptism is only an outer sign of inward faith and if Sheldon doesn’t believe, dunking him in water makes no difference for the state of his soul. He should have further said that doing a baptism on Sheldon would be participating in a lie, and refused to perform it. But he didn’t, because baptizing Sheldon is a big “get” for him.
