Hey John. Just wanted to say, you are a perfect example for youth to see that when you love something, do it, stick with it, even stick with it through the times you feel like giving up on it, and when it’s time, the reward comes! It had to happen. I feel the extension that he signed earlier this year was just to make sure he was distracted throughout the season. If he performed this post season, he's locked in. We all know he didn't, so here we are. I'm not surprised

This better not be the only solution, there is still Mariner/JT contracts/cap space, then a goalie and get rid of MO44 to build a solid D-core. Still plenty needs to be done this off season but this is the right first step, the culture needs to change.

Berube won a cup simply cause Binnington went on an impossible tear of solid tending to carry the blues. If you look at both his post season and season records, he really isn't an upgrade, just a different voice. I'm not convinced his systems will work in Toronto. But that's just one man's take.
@smadas41928 ай бұрын
Coach is always first to get axed! With his record, it wasn't deserved but you can't fire a team that isn't good enough to get it done!
@trptyk8 ай бұрын
at what point is the criticism directed at the players more , obviously keefe couldn’t get it done , but he’s got a plan that the team couldn’t execute. I think some leafs fans are so against pointing the finger at their own guys they make keefe the scapegoat. don’t disagree that this had to happen , but I feel for him as he’s the punching bag in this whole debacle.

The character of this team needs change. Start with the president, players (44,,16, 37, 91, 78, 35, 25) then, talk to me about a team that could have a different outcome. Do not be attached to these players no matter how nice they might be as people/individuals. It's a business!

I hope im wrong but i dont know if firing Keefe will dramatically change this team. End of the day, the core 4 and our team structure just isn't built for playoff hockey. Given the amount of skill and in combination with grit acquired by Tre, this team still choked in the playoffs. I never hated Keefe as much as most, he wasn't an amazing coach, he did get outcoached, but end of the day, players let us down. Year after year, its the same thing, our top players are not our top players.

Keefe not the issue. He has won championships at every level he coached. Does he deserve to be let go. Yes after 5 years its time. The blame is all on MLSE for coddling, pampering, insulating, and not holding the young core 3 accountable ever. Every year it was the core to blame for the loses in the playoff. Keefe will have numerous playoff runs somewhere else and he will take a new team to cup gloary before the leafs hoist one. Its time to slowly gut 75% to 100% of this core to build a proper team with a culture of hard work, grit, and accountability. Its to late for Matthews, Nylander, and Marner. After years of having it their way, no way in hell will they change there approch to there game and the teams new philosophy now. Time to move on from them. As sad and painful that will be.

Fans make me sick. I have a long memory. Every player Leafs fans said sucked and ran out of town seems to have gone elsewhere and proved them wrong. People are trying to fix things thinking that getting rid of this person and that person will solve the problems. Perhaps there are no problems. This team can win. Only 1 team of 32 hoists the cup. Busting up the core as so many of you demand is not the magic beans you think it is. By doing nothing or doing something the odds of winning is the same.

Years ago I called Keefe the softest coach in the league, when he was crying post game, about clean hits his team was receiving during a loss to the Flames! The grief I got for making that comment! A soft Coach = a soft team! A soft team will never win in playoffs period!
@greggom6568 ай бұрын
Team is built for Regular Season. Keefe got most out of those players including mediocre goaltending. I think the GM deserves blame for the team. The team is cash strapped due to contracts. Players are soft. To criticize Keefe being outcoached by John Cooper? Take a number for those coaches.

If the Pens are stupid enough to move on from Sully, I think he'd be the perfect coach for the Leafs. Coach Q is another good option. All I know is they need a tough, proven, no nonsense HC behind the bench to make men out of these soy boys.
