Amazing to see a poet laureate talking, I have been reading only in books.

Thank you for this video. I am a 'fan' of Simon Armitage and hearing what he has to say about poetry is always very interesting. I had not heard of S. Ramlochan and will peruse the collection. I'd like to point out what Simon could not say because he is too modest but he, too, has translated the Odyssey and a brilliant version it is!

I bought 'Everyone knows I am a Haunting' and then looked at the authors Twitter feed and found this lovely poem - Guess what! If you're a TERF, Fuck off. - A Poem. So stunned that my hero would support this.

Who cares if it was translated by a woman

It provides a different perspective on the text. I'd have thought that was obvious.

OK no I need to come back to how stupid this comment is - the forthright and prominent role of women in the Odyssey is a major departure from most ancient works, and has been subject of much scholarly interest and comment when it comes to the odyssey. A translation by a woman would of course be interesting because the presentation of women in the text is a major area of study, so to see how a female translator would tackle that is of course of great interest Seriously what an absolutely asinine comment that belies a complete lack of knowledge masquerading as some kind of anti woke crusade. Truly clueless.
