Also, you start your script with #! /bin/sh .. on my system (Ubuntu 18.04 LTS) this points to /bin/bash. -> as to not confuse a newbie - wouldn't you rather put #! /bin/bash since you are later invoking it from the prompt ?

.swp (which stands for "swap") means that the file is still being opened / edited by a text editor, which means you probably have not properly exited your text editor. To do this in vi or vim, hit the ESC key, then enter ":wq" and hit Enter.

After writing your required script.... Go to command mode by typing Esc and to extended command mode by typing full column (:) [ shift + ; ] Then then then type wq Congrats you saved your script using vi editor. Love from India 🇮🇳
