Great video cheers mate. Momentary switches are so much cooler. In Switzerland it is a blessing as all light switches have a neutral in the box and the switches are all push and not toggle.

I have IT people that work for me in my organization. When they present new products, and they begin to explain How it works before explaining What it does and why the benefit, they end up being presentations like this. It took until minute 14 that I began to understand what this device does. If you would have presented this to me in person, I would quickly have interrupted you and asked you to get to the end first, and then if you like to geek out on the how it works, I would let you. Thumbs up because you answered my question but it took long to get there.

In the past, I used to record my video in the same sequence as you see them. Meaning that I did not fully test in the beginning and have a clear understanding of its capabilities, or what to highlights. I am definitely not doing this now, but still it is a problem to some extent. Thanks for the feedback.

Planting the seed... you could long press twice (or once) any switch in the house you wanted to, in order to reset the internet router. Useful if the router has occasional issues that require reset.

Hi The best feature of these I3 is that Alexa see's it as a door bell, and it can be used to make Alexa, chime, speak, and activate a Alexa routine enabling the Alexa to be a hub that lets the shelly control other non shelly stuff

So, thinking ahead about getting into more automation via the Shelly ecosystem. Ideally I would want a network switch for these to connect to that is also connected to a backup power solution such as a UPS or fallback generator. Also, in addition to assigning static IP addresses at the DHCP Server (typically the internet router) via MAC address, I would also want to specify the same IP addresses in the firmware for every controller and controlled device. This way, even with a router out of the picture, as long as there is at least a dumb switch in the mix, the necessary connections can be made. Question: If I use a Shelly to power cycle a router via auto-timer (say, 10 seconds), is this going to cause an issue bringing the router back once the allotted time has passed? What I'm really getting at here is, would the Shelly connected to the router be performing the countdown internally, or would a Shelly across the network that sent the command be performing the countdown, then be expected to signal another toggle event with the router down? I hope this makes sense. I'm foreseeing the downed router being a barrier to receipt of a restart signal.

I see what you mean. I would have thought that assigning the fixed IP via mac address is sufficient, but if you also fix the IP on the device at least they will be able to communicate with each other as long as the wifi network is up and running. On the timing question. If you use the Auto On function of the device, I am pretty sure the timing is done internally in the device. So it will turn itself back on regardless if the network is available or not. That is the option I would use as well.

Do you actually have to type in the url for configuring the outputs? Seems cumbersome? Assigning static ips makes sense, but another level of complexity for the DIYer. Price to pay for local control?

Well, yes pretty much. Of course if you use some sort of home automation hub it would be easier, but this was these small devices can communicate directly with each other which is the simplest scenario.

Your videos are excellent, thank you, I could not have set up my i3 without your help! Where are the URL programming commands, I could not see them in the i3 manual? I purchased a Shelly Uni with a view to using it to indicate amount of gas left in bottle (by mass) in conjunction with Shelly1, I am hoping your Uni video may help me with this.

Well you cannot really control the i3, it does not have any outputs. You can configure which URL to call in the URL Actions. Probably this is why there is nothing. You can probably call the /status URL just like on any Shelly product. To be honest the Uni is still on my self. I cannot get the output working and the support form Shelly dies out.

I would like to use it to arm/disarm a single or multiple home security cameras by the toggle switches or remotely using phone APP, Alexa, etc. My questions are about system recovery after power outage. Suppose all components are set to use the Wi-Fi router. One or more remote AC devices are turned on. Q1. Will ALL! lights return to the same last-state (on or off) after AC power was removed from ALL! devices and Wi-Fi router and than restored back? Q2. Will all devices/lights return to the same last-state (on or off) after ONLY! the Wi-Fi router was auto-reset after power outage or reset by internet provider or reset manually?

This Shelly i3 does not switch any device, but you would configure it to control other Shelly devices that will switch your cameras on and off. Those Shelly device have a power on state. So you can configure them to turn on, off or return to the last state when the power comes back. So you can device for each of them. Based on my experience when the power goes back your router will automatically reconnect to the internet. Usually the way it happens that the wifi comes back first, but the internet connection is not restored for maybe another minute or two. But the bottom line is, that everything goes back online in a few minutes without you or your provider doing anything.

i understood nothing.. how can i receive to my i3 input from remote switch if i still have to connect it via wire???? U should show your wiring to be more clear how it's connected
@csongorvarga
@csongorvarga 3 жыл бұрын
There is nothing remote here. The i3 is "remote" to the device which is can actually control. Wiring the i3 is just like wiring any regular switch.

NIce video, but you are assuming too much knowledge. For example, you speak about 'empty circle' and 'momentary switch'. Would be nice if you explain everything you say in words that people understand and point with your finger or mouse on what you are referring to.

Sorry, it is hard to balance these, and I also forget a lot what to stress and what to ignore. Momentary switch is like your ringer pushbutton, which is on when pressed and goes back to off when you let it go.
