I just found your channel and I have already found a new book for my grandaughter, thank you! One of my favorite illustrators is Eloise Wilkins, she's from another time, but I think her art is precious.

I have decided as adult to collect Jan Brett. Her work is legendary! Sometimes her 'vignettes' foreshadow what is to come on the next page. Her most famous book is "The Mitten" whereby you can see the Nordic aesthetics and textiles have heavily influenced her style and 'signature'.

Your video from a year ago popped up on my feed and then I found this follow up one. I too was going to add Jan Brett to your list from last year, glad to see so many have suggested her. We particularly love her winter/Christmas stories. They set such a lovely mood for that cozy time. We have a book that has a big collection of her winter/christmas stories in one and that gets read over and over each Christmas season. Another classic I wanted to add is the illustrations by Ron Barrett who did all the Cloud With a Chance of Meatballs books. Another set of books with distinct style and color choice and I love how much detail and fun there is to look at. Another more classic style is David Wiesner, his books rest solely on the images, no words. He creates such depth in his worlds... Sector 7 and Free Fall being the two we have. Another illustrator/Author combo I am amazed by is James Gurney who did the Dinotopia series they are huge books (as in many pages) full of illustrations of this world he created. Just so much time, care and detail. Another "older" illustrator we have come to appreciate (I have 5 boys ages 9 down to 1) is David Macaulay who does amazing amount of detail in his illustrations about how things work. His scale and way he zooms in and out of the things he is describing. Even if my kids are too young to completely understand the engineering of it, the illustrations are ones too look at for a long time. Some modern illustrators I put off Mo Willems for years cus I didn't jive with his art style BUT then I discovered how clever his stories are and how amazing he could explain a mood/feeling or thought from just two single characters and their specific expressions. They are such fun reads and have come to enjoy his art style especially when he does add color and more vibrancy to some of the stories. Matthias Picard has some amazing 3D art in his books, with just amazing full details. Pretty neat. A family favorite is Torben Kuhlmann, who is illustrator/author of books such as Moletown, Edison, Armstrong etc. FULL amazing paintings/water colorings. I am a sucker for all things Renata Liwska and Teagan White... LOVE her little animals. So cute. A newer favorite is Phoebe Wahl, Little Witch Hazel. We love reading this book and looking at the sweet foresty illustrations. Cute stuff. And I have lots of Non Fiction illustrators I love, Ignotofsky and her Wondrous Workings of Planet Earth... fun style and interesting colors... Okay I am done, my kids are climbing all over me. ...also, tons of great middle grade illustrated books, but thats for another day.

Thank you for leafing through the Richard Scarry book! I had the same one as a child, but it was in German and Czech (my aunt and uncle were living in Vienna at the time). I speak neither language, so I mainly leafed through it and made up stories about the characters and scenarios on each page. I always wondered what the original version looked like.

The Aesops Fables book you mentioned in another video reminds me of The Big Book For Peace, which you should definitely check out, it has a Maurice Sendak illustration on the cover. It’s also a collection of many stories/poems with illustrations. If you haven’t mentioned it already (I’m working my way through all your picture book videos after coming across the GOAT one) The Quiltmaker’s Gift by Jeff Brumbeau and Gail de Marcken. My grandmother read it to me over and over and she never got impatient about me wanting to just pore over the illustrations. The intricate details are spectacular. All of my favorite picture books from childhood are overflowing with details like that, some other standouts are Market Street by Arnold and Anita Lobel, and Each Peach Pear Plum by Allan and Janet Ahlberg. I really appreciated you mentioning Animalia by Graeme Base (again in a previous video) because I had completely forgotten about that book and as soon as you brought it on the screen I gasped. It’s already in my thriftbooks cart lol

If artist like Shaun Tan existed in the 18th century, we would never had camera photo graphs. His work is brilliant.

Thank you for your videos. I had not heard of some of these illustrator, andI want to see more of their work. As far as having a unique and distinct style, I would suggest Shel Silverstein, Gustaf Tenngren, and Steven Kellog. Maybe you'll feature them on another video 🤷♀️ 😉

That Shaun Tan one is a very sad and dark story. He is brilliant! Other Aus to look out for that I collect Jeanie Baker - beautiful environmental stories told through Collage. I saw the original collages for one of her books in a local gallery- amazingly beautiful details. Robert Ingpen is an award winning Australia illustrator, he's illustrated some amazing Aus stories and his version of Alice in Wonderland is a wonder. Graeme Base - His Animalia alphabet book is over 30 years old and a Classic Mem Fox- Delightful May Gibbs - Gumnut Babies - Classic Aus Victorian era Norman Lindsay - A painter of world renowned in the early 20th century, he illustrated a Classic Children's book - The Magic Pudding Dorothy Wall - Blinky Bill - another Classic Australian Children's book.

Ida Outhwaite's Fairyland is too good to pass up too. Seriously check it out, really beautiful art. 1920s fairies in stunning colours. Very Art Nouveau but by an Aus author and illustrator

Love the work of Tasha Tudor. I felt the book you showed was a poorer example of her work - if you are interested in exploring her work further try A is for Adelaide or Corgiville Fair. I do understand why you don’t love Dr. Suess as I feel similarly about his illustrations. They are iconic and familiar and work very well with his stories, but when I think of well illustrated stories they are not near the top of my list.
