Basic Summary : The world is about end, the girl ie. Rin's father decides that he wants to save his daughter so he builds a simulation machine, then induces a comatose state in his daughter, wipes her memories and places her in the simulation machine , the reason for wiping her memories is so that she doesn't feel lonely and instead thinks that this is how the world is originally and gives her a virtual tablet so that she can create anything ( to avoid insanity induced by boredom) .The simulation machine comes complete with life support, the red tubes probably carry blood and provide nutrients directly to her body and the black tubes probably take the waste from out her body , the metal-ish underpants probably serve the same function . Now Rin in the simulation begins gathering her memory fragments hence, the visions of her past , and in the real world she is drifting through space . So what about the e-mail ??? , her father probably set it so that after a set amount of days passed ( 2568 something ) this e-mail would be delivered to her in the event he fails to stop it from sending (he died), kinda like a fail safe . So In the end after the "Thank you" i guess she probably dies coz i guess the email must've been a program that tells the simulation to stop because what's the point in continuing to live for like forever

Personally I think that Tokyo or basically the whole world was going to collide with something like a planet that would end life. Rin, the girl, was about ten at the time and was SHELTERED from this news by her father. As their days became numbered Rin's father spent as much time with her as shown in some of the memories in the video like when Rin got her teddy bear. Soon her father created this machine that allowed Rin to stay in a world where she could create anything she wanted and so she could be safe. When the day came her father hooked Rin up to the machine and most likely wrote the message that Rin read at the end of the video. He probably died as of the rest of the world while Rin stayed in her world for at least 7 years or so. Although there really isn't such a nice ending in this story, I think it's pretty beautiful :3

Koala 911 good theory, but I don't think it was named because she was sheltered from the news, I think it was named because as said from the lyrics, as Rins dad protected her from her inevitable death, Rin promised to "Shelter" all the remaining memories she has of him, thus why she said at the end that the memories made her stronger.

Maybe he was right, Rin's father might planned all this, and while Rin is in a virtual world maybe her dad made her go to the Moon or even Mars or some other planet where there might be human life there, enough crying guys, maybe that's what the father planned to do.

You what makes this video sadder Rin (the girl) might be dead inside that pod! The proof is that she has been in there for 7 years with no food or water. (How I got the 7 years is because of the no message day counter.) Somehow if she is alive that means she is supposedly the last human alive.

Last human alive, kept alive in a matrix style simulation, when her body is kept in hibernation-like hypersleep by machines that feed her exactly right levels of proper nutrition, along with some sort of oxygen replenishing machines that give her the little oxygen her sleeping body needs. She will live. Alone. Aware that mankind is gone and she will always be alone. A living memento of a now gone race. Until her body gives out with age. And with the machines taking good care of her, that might be another 80+ years. If you ask me, that's torture.
