We saw a man that had robbed a store on our game cams. He was on our property on foot. We sent location to authorities and they were able to find him. He had taken his life. We were prepared and notified our neighbors to stay in. He could have easily attempted to enter our home etc…. Always be prepared. Good advice guys. Appreciate all your videos!

I live in Maine. I was 112 miles away from the mass shooting. One week later some crazy nut lite a fire in the middle of walmart 9 miles away from where I live. The damage to the walmart will likely shut down our store permanently. This lunatic tried to burn the store down at the busiest time of the day trying to kill people. Only the local news covered the story with a tiny clip of news as if it was being concealed

My boss called our office a couple weeks ago, telling me to deadbolt the door and not let anyone in. Someone had been stabbed at a business a few blocks away and the perp. had run and they were searching for him. I called our neighbor businesses in our plaza and told the other receptionists the same info because they check the mail or have workers going in and out throughout the day. We already have to be vigilant leaving, esp. when it's late or dark. So that was a recent example of sheltering in place incident that made me consider more for "bugging in" whether it's at work or home.

Yes! You just reminded me of a time when I worked in an office. I always hated that we left our front door unlocked (I kept asking if we could get a code lock or key access entry lock because many of the people there were very safety conscious/prepper aware, and we happened to work for several guns and ammo companies) but my boss kept putting it off. Well, one random day, our admin got a call that was a recording from the police. It said to shelter in place because a woman was running door to door with a MEAT CLEAVER. It was that moment I was like, told ya so! We should've had a lock already installed. Instead, one of us had to go risk their life by walking to the front door and locking it. And that's just with a meat cleaver. Had it been someone with a gun, their life would've been in even more danger if they had to walk to the door.

With our stocked pantry and preps in place the only thing that we had to do was unlock the gun cabinet, sit and wait until he was found. Hopefully it was eye opening for more of the locals to prep up.

For years, I've stayed armed pretty much 24/7/365. Even at home.(All Home Invasions happen "At Home") The only time I'm Not Armed is when I'm in the shower. And then it's on the BthRm vanity. Unfortunately, I can't convince my kids of this necessity. Hunting is just a perk. He said he never wants to carry. I asked what if you are in a live shooter situation. He said that never happens. We live very rural and we may be too safe that he thinks that never happens here. 😳🤯😤🤦‍♀️ I instantly called my husband and asked him what did we do wrong and where did we go wrong! Our 25 & 22 year old daughters both have theirs and use it. He may be the death of me!

Some ppl probably wouldn’t agree but my kids have rifles/ shotguns in their rooms. They are only 9 and 11 years old but have been shooting since they could hold a gun and can safely handle and operate them. Only time we put them up is if they have friends staying over.

I have had my home broken into and my identity stolen; have done all I can and became more prepared and train daily. Planning on launching a class to help others recover their identity and security in their home. Single moms and kids are being targeted by these creeps! Been in law enforcement for 15+ years. Some things we've been seeing (at least here in my area) lately, they cut the power first, then cut the phone lines if there are any. Many people keep their power box outside unlocked. They simply open it and flip the breaker to off. Make sure to put a lock on these. Another thing I do, I have a UPS for my modem/router, and another for my camera hub. In case of a power outage, cameras will still be recording. We've also seen quite a few of these guys using jammers that blocks wireless alarm systems, and cell phones. The most common mode of entry into the home recently has been the rear slider/door. Definitely reinforce front doors, and if you have a rear slider like I do, do what I did and get a security screen installed. From the outside it looks like a normal bug screen, but they are really tough. They are expensive, but worth the cost IMO. Security is done in layers. Start outside, with GOOD lighting, signage (alarm sign, beware of dog) , cameras, fencing, etc. FYI.. SimpliSafe is garbage. Easily hacked with a $5 ham radio.

They can also just pull the meter out of the meter socket. If my power is cut, goes off or if I lose internet I automatically get an alarm on my phone (separte power and internet source) no matter where I'm at. With any luck I'll have my cell phone near me (not big on carrying a cell phone). I also have lighting on remotes that shut off all inside lighting (except what I need) and turns on outside flood lights. It lets anyone outside know that I know they are there, I can see them but they can't see me.

Based on experience as a target of home invaders, I recommend starting by keeping your home and yard locked up as much as possible. Sings of dogs and their equipment are a huge deterant, especially if you have dogs visit in your front yard. A locked storm door over the front door is super strong, yet does not look like bars to deter criminals, screaming to the world that I have things they want. Most attempts to enter my home have been through my front door. A security screen door over a metal entry door in the back yard kept an angry young, buff man under the influence from entering my home, while I spoke with 911 dispatch. He remained taunting me. Hard wired and WiFi cameras that are mobile are best, especially when neighbors cameras capture activity on each other's properties. With a couple possible exceptions, these attempts have all been made by illegal Mexicans that the government spends my hard earned taxes to house near me in "affordable housing." Within a few weeks, I see the criminals at their homes, and minimum wage jobs. Demand the government deport the illegal immigrants if you want to live in peace.

Hmmm, a friend of mine has a sliding glass door that she never uses but it is certainly a weak point in home safety. I wonder if putting a plexiglass sheet over the door on the interior would be a fix? Maybe have it attached to the wall studs in such a way that it could be removed quickly from the inside but could not be gotten through or off so easily from the outside? I am going to have to look into this. What a grand idea!
@carlameaders4352
@carlameaders4352 7 ай бұрын
@@shrikeofterven6006 it sounds like a great idea but you may have problems on the slider door. The attached plexiglass will prevent the door from sliding. Yes, you could put it over the whole doors but you would not be able to ‘quickly’ remove it. It would be removable but not quickly. She may want to save her money and have the slider door replace with a real door.

There are lots of videos on fortifying sliding doors. At a minimum you should have a bar to lay in the track. You can also screw regular screws into the top of the frame, inside the track to prevent it from being lifted off the track. I don't think there's anything you can do to prevent smashing it unfortunately but at least you'd hear that if home and have a few seconds warning.

A dog trained for personal protection is an option if you can afford one (see: Fortress K9). Good relationships with neighbors who may be willing to protect you. Ultimately we may need to find another person to share our home and help us. This may be especially true for the elderly and disability. Pride has to be buried and social bridges built. Shalom/Peace

Please don’t assume just because someone has a partner in life that they shouldn’t both be prepared. A wife can save a husband’s life too. Yes it sucks you are alone, but doesn’t mean you can’t be armed and prepared too. Just choose a weapon you can handle. Doesn’t have to be a huge handgun, can be something smaller - even a .22 will do damage in the right hands with the right ammo and LOTS of practice. The idea in terms of home security is to not let them get access to the house first off. One thing I have taught kids who now live on their own in apartments - if you have workers in your home, always check all your window locks / sliding doors after they leave.

Thing is no one likes theyre eyes banged unsuspecting also this temporary effects them. Not seriously harming the person. If they use night vision and groups will use it. This will blow out theyre ability to be hidden. They will switch to regular lights. Giving theyre location away.

Talking about security with violence, something that has been bothering me and maybe someone will have a suggestion,.... my home has 16 windows, 18 if you count my French doors in the front of the house, which let's in alot of beautiful natural light, but this is all on the main floor and seems like a huge security risk to me if stuff really goes south.. thanks for any ideas to help close this security gap in advance

I work on windows, putting 3m film only makes it easier to deal with, less noise because there is no broken glass. The glass in one sheet when you kick it in or when you remove the entire rubber seal. Ask any window guy, they'll tell you. This is utter bullshit. Get bars on your windows. it's the only way to secure them.

And I had only one other adult and a teen in my house. We had PPD with their tactical vehicles park in our front yard to stage the search!! We were locked down for over four hours!! I watched a neighbor she was screaming at police saying she was going home because her children where alone at home and she just ran passed them finally to her house!! It was beyond scary and that night I realized I was not a big city woman!!

Cameras a great idea, but won’t work in grid down unless the cameras are solar powered or maybe if a homeowner has solar panels and storage batteries to provide the power in such a situation. Someone had a great idea in which LED Christmas string lights were plugged into a power source and mounted along hallways to illuminate the home with “quiet lighting”. Also, a mountain climbing rope coiled in bedroom with one end tied to leg of bed could allow escape. Knot the rope or have heavy gloves next to it to prevent rope burn

42:32 My Niece moved from Dorm Room to apartment this Past summer. He found some type of lock that goes in the hinges somehow where the door cannot be opened (inward opening apartment door) unless She disengages the lock. They also put one of those door stops that you see on the bottom of a door that is on a hinge - schools put them on the outside of classroom doors to hold the door open - my brothers put hers on the inside. 3rd apartment door security, they got her something that goes under the door knob [ like you see done with a chair-back in movies ] this is o bar with one end made that goes under the door knob, the other sits on the floor, and when you push the bar flat to lock it you cannot open the door & no damage to the apartment. Now, if my poor neice ever has to get out in a hurry, she may have a problem; but she sleeps well at night for now.😂
