Hey Steve! Play a a show in Beijing at the Music Festival!
The guitar was actually brought out into the public arena first by black women. Rosetta Tharp, Beverly Watkins, Elizabeth Cotten and Peggy Jones. Then black men who further developed the blues and rock template. The white man is the new kid on the block inheriting the rich history and works done by their black brothers and sisters. What's intriguing is in 1789 Carl Ludvig Junker declared that the guitar should only be played by women as it was not as physically demanding as orchestral instruments. That way women of the day could preserve their dignity and shape. I don't disagree! The guitar in every essence is made for women. The fact that men took it up is a strange phenomenon.
