You people have no idea. It was the 2000. I freaking LOVED, no, I WORSHIPPED this game. I couldn't care less about "finishing it", I enjoyed THE FAKE CITY, the virtual neighbourhood. The people, the inside videogames, the subquests (when I didn't even know what a subquest was ahah). I spent HOURS inside Ryo's house. Checking everything. To me, this game was pure life. (Of course, japanese only. So we had to DOWNLOAD from the internet the guide in english ahah, good old times).

I need more games like this where you can kind of approach things at your own pace - explore, check everything out, and feel like you're *there* living in realtime. I love how this game moves. Even if it can be rough to wait around for time-sensitive meetings/plot points. Something about wandering the house... if they'd made more stuff interactive (such as being able to cook) I'd have just a field-day having Ryo spend all day at home. :P

Yes this was my childhood! The pinnacle of gaming and it still does things today’s games don’t do. The passion of the devs of that era is unmatched. If it’s ever possible to be converted to code when you die, this game is where I want to spend my eternity 😎

Shenmue 1 had a lot more detail than Shenmue 2, Shenmue 2 tries to compensate for this with bigger maps and more maps, which is cool, but I prefer the more packed environments. But holy shit is Shenmue 2's combat MILES better than Shenmue 1, having the dodge make Ryo slide a MILE around your opponent just made everything work smoother. I wish the grab mechanics where better but hey thanks Shenmue 3 for just not having grabs at all.
@Incubusnut4 жыл бұрын
Garrett Oliva. Shenmue III had combat that was a step backward, IMO.

Did anyone else explore the Hazuki house to the extent they found a Sega Saturn? In the basis that 90% of people playing Shenmue probably owned one at some point, it was such a lovely Easter egg.

@SurvivalSpheres Жыл бұрын
I there I think, music with the garden ambience. But it’s no good. The wood clunk sound is nice, but the flowing water sound is a pain in the ears. Really bad quality and extremely short sample for the loop.
