I saw some prediction Chinese companies will be making up 30% of the world EVs by 2035 ( ie not just manufacturing for others - but specific brands )- but this chip ban could hit hard - China can make I think 14nm chips - that may be enough - as many industrial chips don't have to be on 3 or 4nm - Still there's a lot of knowledge in SOC design - Will take PRC along time to get UV chip making - a lot of it is skilled personal with huge experience - PRC older people know hardship - it's the young promised the opium of consumerism and jobs that will cause strife - China will muddle on - they will export their own stuff - but much of it will become commodity , low profit , high volume - I'm not too fussed on that as -If you want to keep paying Apple , Samsung $1200 every couple of years for just a phone go right ahead - when even now a $300 phone is excellent - and 5 years on 3nm SOCs - they will run fast , efficient and 20Mb camera is still enough - even if big guys pushing huge numbers with noisy sensors - so need extra processing to clean it up to get a clean unnecessary 256 MB snapshot

A big factor that caused the closure of trade with other countries is China's antagonistic foreign policy that involves the South China, specifically, the ridiculous territorial claims by China with their 9 dash liline. This resulted in even moderate countries ended up rethinking their economic and political relationship with China. Thus now, China is considered the big bad bully by most democratic countries that China had been heavily trading with. Xi really blew it when he started pursuing the 9 dash line claim, because, most countries now can use it as leverage against him and the CCP in future economic and political negotiations, especially with countries negatively affected by the 9 dash line.

Never forget self interest. BRI was always about mutual deception. The CCP pretended it was not just about extending their interests, wealth and power and the poor countries pretended they would pay back the loans instead of treating the BRI as free money. The winning country was always going to be the side whose unstated objective was closest to be achieved in the end. One thing I didn’t hear mentioned was the individual people of the US. Many, many of us US citizens are doing our best to avoid products made in China. Many of us try to find other options that are made elsewhere as much as possible. We hold the CCP responsible for the pandemic, as well as have very hard feelings toward the CCP, for the threats to the US, the spy balloons, the turmoil in the South China Sea, and the support they are giving Russia. The CCP thinks they can take and do whatever they want, and the US citizens don’t feel our government is doing enough about it. At one time the label "Made in Japan" was a synonym for "cheap or low tech." The Japanese fixed that problem over many years and became a powerhouse of manufacturing and processing. Japan developed its own high quality, cost effective, business and manufacturing culture and the world beat a path to its markets. So it will move. nationally and internationally. In my country we had a large textile industry, leather factories, shipbuilding and cigar factories. There is almost nothing left of it, but our industry still has a major shortage of personnel. Now we have a high-tech manufacturing and development industry. It will always be like this, and China will continue to develop and change. I've been there a few times and I think it's a beautiful country with very friendly people. I love that country.

I was in Shenzhen in 2018 -2021 and I can guarantee that the real money saw all this coming somehow. When the Hong Kong border closed 'temporarily' some high-end businesses acted as if it was permanent - which it ended up being. What am I saying? I don't know. A moment of silence for all the good-natured, hard-working Chinese souls who worked to live a better life but died because of disease, fire, flood, lack of food, emergency response, medical facilities and safe infrastructure because the CCP spent the money on PLA, BRI and covert infiltration into foreign governments and cultures to gain control. Without the influx of direct foreign investment the grim prospects are a return to famine and poverty.
