Shepherd Derrial Book (born Henry Evans) was a passenger aboard Serenity, and a friend and spiritual teacher to its crew. Before his time aboard the ship, he led a life marked by violence and conflict, both inside and out, which remained a secret from the crew.

I did not know about his past. I assume it was disclosed in the comics, which I have never read. I had always thought he was an operative like in the movie 'Serenity' played by Chiwetel Ejiofor. In the episode 'Safe' when Shephard Book is suddenly sent to medical to be saved after they check his ID. That reaction seems a bit too eager for the background you mentioned. I've always loved Ron Glass in all his roles. It was such a treat to see him on Firefly. Thanks for the back ground on his character, it answered a ton of questions.

@@OmegaSerenity yes, I think late 70s. Great acting by an ethnic and racially diverse group. Ron Glass played a detective who dressed impeccably and also wrote mysteries, I believe.

I would have liked to seen shepherd books past fleshed out more. The little tide bits here and there were tantalizing and left room for more.

I'm worried about Disney+ trying to reboot. I want it to be good.😬 But now it seems Hollywood cares less about likeable characters and or good storytelling. Now it's only "The Message."
