Shepherd's Pie Recipe Ingredients
1 to 2 tablespoons avocado oil
1 pound ground beef or ground lamb
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste
3 garlic cloves finely chopped
1 yellow onion diced
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup beef broth or chicken broth
1/2 cup dry red wine
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 1/2 cups frozen veggies
2 lbs russet potatoes
3/4 cup heavy whipping cream
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese freshly grated
1 large egg
parsley or chives for garnish
Preheat the oven to 400F
Start off with boiling the potatoes. Cook until fork-tender.
Drain the potatoes, mash, add butter salt, ground black pepper, heavy cream, egg, and Parmesan cheese, and combine.
Using a separate skillet adding oil if necessary brown the ground meat.
Drain any excess oil if necessary, before adding the onions, and garlic.
Allow the onions and garlic to cook until slightly softened.
Add the all-purpose flour and combine.
Add red wine, and beef broth to the meat mixture and combine.
Add the tomato paste Worcestershire sauce and combine.
Add the frozen veggies and fold the veggies into the meat before covering it down with a lid and lowering the flame to low heat.
Cover for about 10 minutes and allow the meat mixture to come to a slow simmer until the sauce is slightly thickened.
Using a casserole dish add the meat mixture, smooth it out, and spread it evenly throughout the dish.
Top the meat with the mashed potatoes and spread evenly. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese, garnish with parsley or chives.
Place the casserole into your preheated 400F oven for about 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown or cooked all the way through
Allow the shepherd's pie to cool for about 15- 30 minutes before serving.
Enjoy!!!
