This is very cool. Been trying to work out how to use Mograph with Arnold mesh Light in a cloner for ages. What I was looking for was how to either randomly or via a falloff have the lights turn on/off. Think vegas sign light bulbs :-) I think this will push me in the right direction.

Have you tried Lentil for Arnold? It basically adds more control to your camera settings (rendering wise) and makes things like bokeh and depth of field, that usually make your render times go crazy, much faster and cleaner. Plus a lot of other cool things.
@ShepperdOneill4 жыл бұрын
I have not heard of it, so I just now searched for it. It looks like I might have to give it a try. Bokeh effects in Arnold take forever to render!
@MauroSanna4 жыл бұрын
@@ShepperdOneill I want to buy it after having tried it. It seems like a must have for us Arnold users.
@ShepperdOneill3 жыл бұрын
@@MauroSanna Did you every buy Lentil? I recently worked on a job that required depth of field, and I ended up doing it in AE with a position pass. Arnold was taking too long to render it. I think I might have to buy Lentil but I wanted to ask you what you thought about it? Does it remove the grain and noise from depth and field and motion blur? I have yet to see anyone show real world results with it.

Very nice, thank you! I do find the suggestion interesting on how to loop the rainbow lights without using keyframes. Could you please elaborate on that or do you have a tutorial recommendation on how to achieve this with xpresso? Thank you! ^^
@ShepperdOneill2 жыл бұрын
It's fairly simple to set up. Are you familiar with User Data controllers, and how to use them with xpresso?
@matthiaspanopau2 жыл бұрын
@ShepperdOneill Hej, yes i know a little about arranging these data controllers. And i just realised you were relating to the offsetu value in the mapping section of the shader effector? So basically i would drive this value with the help of a time node and a math node?
@ShepperdOneill2 жыл бұрын
@@matthiaspanopau Yes. Basically the time node would be plugged into the first input port of the math node, and your user data controller would be plugged into the second input port of the math node. Then the math node would output to the shader effector input.

Very cool. I'm curious as to how you knew to use display_color as the custom attribute
@ShepperdOneill3 жыл бұрын
I had to spend several days searching online and finally found a very old thread where the developers had mentioned it. Apparently, the "user_data" node is extremely powerful, and is how information is fed to Arnold. Unfortunately, there is not a list of custom attributes that I know of. I plan to make another tutorial soon about the "user_data" node.
@MikeFlex3 жыл бұрын
@@ShepperdOneill ooof! thank you so much for going to that extent to figure it out and I look forward to the next video! I'm gonna poke Lee about this and hope that they can put a little effort into this side of documentation :)

@@ShepperdOneill If you twirl down the arrow to the right of the attribute setting in the user data node, that gives you all the datatypes available based on your installed render engines and plug ins (so for instance if you have X-Particles all the user data types for XP live in there as well - easier than remembering the correct syntax.) The Mograph display_color is in there by default.

Do you do vray tuts? Any way to do multiple materials in vray5 for c4d? Is it possible to overlap multiple materials using gradiends for opacity?? mix materials doesn't work
@ShepperdOneill3 жыл бұрын
I had done a few Vray tutorials on the past, but I no longer use it. The old version had some issues that were never resolved, and the newer version was lacking features. It should be possible to overlap as many materials as you want. You could do this in the older version, so I don't see why it wouldn't work in the newer one.

How dare you say that you will switch back to Vray ????? Arnold now is faster, has best Pathtracing SSS in all render engines, has very awesome volume rendering ( Vray even does not have multi scatter ), has very easy and comfortably intuitive to use, has Much Better color raw render result thân Vray. I just use Vray 5 for C4D and I quit after 3 hours struggling with it. Too anoyying and alots bug. I need an explanation from you.
@ShepperdOneill3 жыл бұрын
I did some alpha and beta testing for the newest version of Vray for C4D. It looked promising, but I still don't think it's ready yet for me to switch to it. It's lacking a lot of features and the render times don't seem to be any faster. For now I am staying with Arnold.
