Today we are moving a set of our feeder pigs into the woods. We have to decide a layout for our paddock, build it and then get the pigs moved across the creek. This may be a challenge!

Reminds me of Grandpa Telling me as child they would turn there Hogs out ever spring of the Year And they would come Back Home the Winter For Feeding With a Whole New Half Grown Pigs . He would always talk about the unbelievable Size on them Hogs By Winter .

You could build a ram pump which is just a series of check valves to pump the water up from the creek, they are really neat and don’t require any power except running water and they can pump water up hill.

A lot of people don’t utilize their forested land. Until cleared, but you can put some good live stock and have it green the following season.

you could look into making a RAM PUMP to move water out of the creek with no power at all

What a beautiful creek. Praise the Lord for how smoothly the transfers worked. Have you thought about putting flex pipe into the creek higher up and letting gravity deliver the water to your barrel? The problem with my idea is that to keep from creating a mess of a wallow from the overflow you would also need a large exit tube high in the barrel to let the extra water flow back into the creek. Maybe my idea is too complicated.

If you have a pig that's hard to move just put a 5 gallon bucket over its head and you can steer them backwards. Easiest way to move the big ones if feed doesn't work.

With the flow you have in that creek, and if it is continuous, you could use a ram pump to go up the hill

We have been enjoying y'all's videos for a couple years now. We actually lived in Greensboro for 15 years before buying land in Randolph County around Asheboro. I know y'all are around Wilksboro now. I learned a lot from your videos that came in handy when we got our first 2 pigs this past Spring. We harvested them a couple months ago. Keep up the progress. I love it when you have a plan and everything goes just right I think it just makes the day. Those pigs should just love that area and I agree I don't believe any animal should be pinned up in small quarters and never see the sunshine or get the fresh air

Chuck. Come summer u might want to have that water check..I did the same thing my sow keep getting worm...the water holds parasites.in the hotter months. Just something to think about.hope u all have blessed week...

This has been one of the most informative pig forest videos I have seen. As pigs are natural woodland creatures, what are your thoughts on not giving them feed? I am interested in very sustainable practices and no feed seems sustainable. I under they may not thrive to make a super profitable venture, but I don’t think they would die in there. I am fascinated by permaculture Mark Shepard’s method of STUN - Severe Total Utter Neglect. The creature has to make it or they don’t. But they become part of the land and its ecosystem. People tell me the same thing for chickens (another original woodland animal).

When we start a new paddock in the woods, we add orange ribbon in between the sections in order to get the pigs used to seeing the boundaries.

How you going to catch them when it’s become that time? I am working on fixing a place to put mine in the woods. I am trying to figure out the loading before I start running fencing. Going to do a few paddocks in woven wire and one bigger on will be electric fencing. Woven wire for the boards, farrowing sows and one for the problem pigs. The electric fence will be for the pigs that can act right and stay in

Chuck, I wanted to suggest a possible idea for your water situation at the creek. Perhaps a boat 12 volt bilge pump and PVC piping to the barrel. Pretty inexspensive and movable if you dont glue the pvc together. Best wishes, blessings.
