As a Stylist.....the reason why your hair isn't retaining length is because the stylist isnt trimming enough....Ive watch your videos and listen to your stylist give reasons to why she LEAVE them split ends ... It's just to make you comfortable and I get it. However; Every video you see that splits get higher...Especially on the left side. Advice: get your mind ready for Bob cut and lets start retaining length.

Omg! I had hair that looked exactly like those. I told my lady to trim and she was all no, no we can trim gradually. I should’ve insisted she trim that mess off. I ended up losing so many inches. So now I’m starting fresh again. I had to cut to between armpit and bra strap length. (A new guy that’s a barber and a former stylist. I’m only person with long hair in there. He cuts sooo good though.) I am committed to quarterly trims now whether it’s needed or not because waiting until I need a trim isn’t working out.

For some people their underlying condition may be genes regarding why their hair doesnt grow to their shoulders. Think of it like this people have things different with various organs from eyesight to hearing to skin and hair will be no different. There is probably someone out there whos hair wont grow to their shoulders even with the best care just as some people have alopecia for gene reasons or unknown reasons. There is hardly anything that everybody can fit in the same box with. Also I guess it depends on how you define shoulder length. Because if someones hair only grows 5 inches all over then only the sides and back of the hair will touch the shoulders. I agree there are probably people that can make improvements in their haircare and get to shoulder length or may be cutting too much hair off too often to get there. Some things we have to accept. For me my hair will probably never be to my knees but there may be someone out there thinking all people should be able to grow their hair at least to their knees. Do you have a length in mind that you think your hair would never grow to?

Getting a bob, keeping my hair stretched and my ends tucked when I’m in the house, and 4 professional silk press trims per year have got me back to mid lower back length with dense ends in two years. I agree….leave NO splits…it’s a fallacy. And unless the stylist doing ur hair got hair down her back doing the same thing…….how she gonna tell u it’s a good idea?
@mrod874 ай бұрын
@@nibabigradual trims aren’t bad but may require an adjustment in how u style. Like if ur primary style is a wash n go or twist out and she said u can trim gradually….aint no way ur not gonna come back worse….if u have splits and want ur hair to keep growing u have to limit manipulation drastically so no more splits come.

Please take the time to research 'split ends' and understand how they affect the health of your hair. Split ends can spread and deteriorate your hair quality, much like a cancerous growth. It's crucial to have them clipped off regularly. Don't hesitate to ask your stylist to remove all split ends during your next visit-you'll be glad you did!

I love that you have a stylist you love going to! I don't think I'll ever risk going to a stylist again. I'm too traumatized. I was at mid back length, and she brought me back to shoulder length. I'm growing my hair, but I'm not crazy about length. But the fact that I had to go back & give myself another trim the week after still gets me!! I'll pay myself and do the trims myself. The trend or proclivity for straight-across cuts contributes to some clients not seeing length. I am also seeing a difference in stylists that seem to like to keep clients hair at a "manageable" length. And a lot of clients are buying the hype around these extreme trims. When I look at salons, I look for type 4 clients with long hair, and in many salons I see none. There is a lack of care of compassion and really a disdain some stylists have when dealing with type 4 clients. That is why a stylist would say things as reckless as what you mentioned a stylist said. I truly believe some stylists do not really want to see long type 4 hair and if the hair texture is finer, they feel the length is justified.

If we think of it logically, how is it possible that the texture of hair isn’t relevant to how much product you use? She seems to have a lot of hair even though it’s relatively fine.

K18 also isn’t meant to be used if you use a conditioner before, it’s supposed to be used directly after a shampoo else the product won’t work because it can’t get into the hair’s cortex. I did a certification on K18 products to use in my salon but it also says it on the bottle.

Without rubbing your hands together, you won’t know how much product you’re using or where there product is on your hair. For next time, try rubbing it together & then you’ll realise you don’t need as much because you’ll see exactly where the product is & and it’ll do it’s job 🤍

I come from a family of women who have hair down to their waist, with or without proper hair care so I don’t know how I feel about that. People are always asking me. How did you get your hair to grow so long, and I am the worst at caring for my hair. It just grows. 🤔. I do agree with you. That shoulder length is definitely not a pinnacle or someone’s max length. But once you get past mid back, I do have some questions. your hair is definitely growing girl!

Genetics and what you put in your body. People don't understand that water is their friend
@cherylmks4 ай бұрын
I agree. Genetically absolutely influences terminal length. Of course we know that with proper care many can grow longer hair than they thought, genetics is still real. The anagen phase - the period during which a single strand grows in a follicle before it gores dormant and sheds - varies genetically from 2 to 7 years. That's a huge difference. So, for avg growth of 6 inches per year, that strand could grow from 6" x 2 years = or 12 inches, to as much as 6" x 7 years = 42 inches before it sheds. I know a family like yours, who don't do anything special to their hair and all have butt - hip length hair, when they choose. No long wash days, no pampering their hair, no special products, no nothing.

👀 My stylist found a product that is better than K-18, which is imported from Italy. It cut my shedding by 75-80% in one use and is a 2 step system. I told her she could cut more, but she told me it wasn't necessary. My breakage, shedding, and splits were from low Vitamin D, low iron and perimenopause. It is improving now. Since she is my new stylist she asked me what my hair goals were. I told her I wanted to see what my terminal length would be. My regimen is super simple pre-poo, wash, deep conditioner, blow dry on medium heat with heat protectant and I put my hair in medium twists to hold me for the week. Once a month I do a protein treatment before my deep conditioner. I am a fine haired girlie too. I can't wait to see my progress in July, my last visit was in May. I think she could cut a bit more but understand if that doesn't work for you.

When I use the tension method to start off blow drying my hair I make sure it practically dry and streched out before I go in with the brush to ensure it's at it's strongest. I never comb my hair with a rat tail comb. Lastly I comb my hair root to tip, there's a technique to it and my hair is thicker! I think the issue is mainly black people believing that people of African descent's hair inherently doesn't grow or grows unrealistically slow compared to other races but at the same time refuse to realize that the problem is length retention and that the anagen phase is LONG in all humans except for a rare few of any race with some sort of genetic issue that makes their anagen phase crazy short. There are people (and maybe races but how do you even test that an entire race has a longer anagen phase) that have such a long anagen phase that they're outliers but at the end of the day, even the shortest estimated anagen phase is still long. The issue is and will always be length retention and I feel like bringing up genetics is pointless because that isn't an issue for most. The more curly, the more tight, and the more kinky your hair is makes it harder to retain length. But that doesn't make it impossible. I feel like people don't like when people say that cause it's "negative" but it's just reality. Unlike the "genetics" claims. Edit: I'm agreeing with you and your stylist's conversation btw. It's just something that grinds my gears hence the long comment lol

I do you use a clarifying shampoo every wash day, which is about every 8 to 9 days. I have fine hair with medium density and super coily. I use a lot of butters. I use a lot of product just to get it to stay moisturize for the timeframe and for me, it works. What I don’t understand is why people would be using clarifying shampoo stripping all your hair, and not doing a deep conditioning every time. I feel like people go with these hard and fast rules and don’t think about the situation and their particular circumstances. A lot of the natural community just want a fix that someone else did to apply to them. I would never suggest what I do to someone else because their hair needs should be different because they’re different from me. For me I get my hair professionally trimmed every two months because I do want to see when I’m going wrong or if something happened with my hair. My hair is currently bra length, and it took me three years from root to tip with doing major cuts in between.

Yesterday I saw that you posted this after I came home from getting my hair trimmed. Whew… two inches gone AGAIN (I also got two inches trimmed around the end of January or beginning of February). I need to keep up with my ends because although my hair is the healthiest it’s even been, I’ve been lazy with my deep conditioning and using heat with it on wash day. My goal is ultimately BCLH and since I was a couple inches shy of waist length, I’ve gotten too comfortable with doing the bare minimum just to keep my hair healthy lol. I guess it’s time for me to go back to my oil prepoos and twist/braid outs. I love a good wash n go but those single strand knots are tragic. The only good thing I guess I can say is that I am content with my hair despite not reaching my original goal length buttttttt…..I STILL WANT BOOTY CRACK LENGTH HAIR 😂.

I agree with everything you said but I stop getting chemical treatment in my hair cause i don't if it's the stylist or what but i just don't like how my hair feels or look and I'm not someone that use oil or butter in my hair. Just wash my hair every two week and use leave in that has heat protection in it. I never get heat damaged, and i use rods to style my hair. I only use mousse in my hair when i have a special occasion to style my hair but otherwise it's just shampoo, conditioner, my leave in conditioner and my hair rods. But one thing i realized is that any time i braid my hair it always damage my hair. I tried going to different stylist maybe thinking that it might be them but the result is always the same so i stop now. I tried to switch up a few stuff to see if it make a change. Oh and my hair used to feel so dry and brittle but now I'm using the Soulspa Pure Biotin Shampoo and Conditioner with keratin and my Kenra Daily Provision Leave in and after using these I like how my hair no longer feels/look dry. That mess was something they heard another culture say, and some poor souls ran with it. I’ve grown my hair really long at one time before. Started stressing and my scalp became irritated. I’m back on track now, with a damn vengeance. Let’s go girls! 🙌🏾

K18 is meant to go in right after you shampoo. There is no need for a deep conditioner because it’s that already. You have it sit for 5 minutes and then proceed to style. But because you did a deep treatment, the k18 is just sitting on top of your strands boo.

I really didn't think it through 😂😂😂. At home, I only use a clarifying shampoo with K18. Idk what the heck I was thinking lol.

I’m fortunate to have thick 4c hair that grows insanely fast I’m a fan of cut as much as you have to I don’t do split ends it just doesn’t look healthy I was told that if you don’t cut the split ends it splits more resulting in more hair having to be cut

Your hair looks great, how did you do it? Is that a twist out on your blowdried hair? Loved the asmr. I'm not usually into asmr but the Shampoo and the scratching sound so good I wanted my hair washed! I have to wash my hair tomorrow and I didn't feel like it but now I can't wait to wash it! And I agree with u about genetics Im so tired of people using it as an excuse. The average person grows. A 1/2 inch a month. Some people make grow 1/4 and some may grow a whole inch a month, but like you said in a video. Even if your hair grows slower you can still get long hair, It just takes longer.

F.Y.I she put way too much k18 on your hair , she should have rubbed her hands together a lot more until the product looked really white and thick and it also looked like you had beads of water in your hair, hair should be damp not wet. .Your hair should be towel dried as much as possible and the k18 worked into the hair well. After the 4 minutes is up then I use a leave in conditioner and if my hair has dried up too much I spray it with a little water before applying my leave in. L use a heat protection before blow drying my hair and my 4c natural comes out nice and smooth. So many people use k18 like a regular leave in conditioner and it's not ,less is more and it's very important not to use too much if you do it can break your hair off. My hair is short about 8" I put my hair in 4 sections and I use a half pump per section my son's hair is long and thick i put his hair in six sections and i use half pump per section I rub hand together until it emulsions into a thick white paste then I blot it on the ends of my hair first then down the length then spread in really well, this is the best way for type 4 hair to make sure you get full coverage.Oh, I use the k18 detox shampoo .Do not use a moisturizing shampoo. My sister used the olplex shampoo , don't do that. My son and I have gotten 12 applications out of that 1.7oz bottle and there is still some left , I think. I will buy more to make sure i have enough for the maintenance applications .It's been 4 shampoos since the initial six consecutive shampoo day treatments was completed and so fare I have no breakage at least not enough wroth mentioning , no brittleness or dryness . I will do my k18 treatments every 5 to 6 shampoos.When I wear my hair natural I wash my hair once a week, when i silk press my hair I wash it every two weeks sometimes every three weeks. The very first time that I used it on my son's hair, the blow dry came out a little stiff not bouncy , like my hair did that's when I realized that I used way too much and I cut it back the next time to a half pump per section(6 sections ) after the 4 minutes or so I applied a small amount of leave in and a heat protectant and my son's hair turned out beautiful . After 4 minutes you can even use a rinse out or deep conditioner if you'd like. I can't stress enough ,do not apply too much because it could do more harm than good. K18 for me has been the closest thing to a hair miracle. I hope this helps someone.

I don't think that using too much can break your hair off, but I do think people should be mindful of how much they apply to get the results they want.

Ducray delual ds shampoo has a sulfate but it's making my root hair and scalp GLORY my other shampoo is Carol's Daughter wash day delight rose, I detox 1 a month with clay. Before I tried so hard to take at least 8 days for washing again! I'm noticing less shedding and more manageability. Choose shampoo for your scalp pleasee

Love the video! I have thin and fine hair so my hair always looks like I need a cut. You probably have more hair in 1/4 of a section than I do my entire head 😂 I cut it all off once and it grew back the same way 😂 I’m on a growth journey as well and have found that my hair appears thicker before I start seeing some length. SheRea, we love you but you need to stop pre pooing overnight. Your hair should not be wet with product for that long and it probably one of the reasons your ends have been struggling. Wet hair is weaker than dry hair, and your letting your hair be wet for hours and hours. I’ve been watching you for years and I want you to get booty crack length hair but I think you need to reevaluate your hair routine. Try pre pooing with just oil and no water over night
@SheReaDelSol4 ай бұрын
Hey, I don't post much hair content anymore (for a number of reasons), but what you don't know is that I don't even prepoo overnight anymore. I just do/did it for the salon visit because It's a long drive and I have to leave home early to find parking. Honestly, at this point, y'all don't know what I'm doing or not doing. I haven't posted an updated hair routine (outside of reviews) in literal years. Thought I would share that info in case anyone comes across this comment and wants some context. Good luck on your hair journey ❤️.
