Cheers, it came out better than I had expected, The Vallejo base colour helped a lot. Just need to edit the video for the dio now. Need to do some WW2 European stuff again🙂

Not to be a nitpicker but EVERYTHING in Vietnam took on a red hue from the insidious dust of the terrain. Only things on or under the water in Vietnam did not get coated with the dust. It was especially true for tracked vehicles like the M551. The 11th ACR (Blackhorse) operated in an area where the unpaved roads and trails their Sheridans traveled applied a generous coating of the red dust. The North Africa dust pigment applied to the model is too tan a shade. You need a pigment similar in tone to the AK light rust used on the tracks and LOTSc of it. Soft material like rucksacks, tarps, etc. were especially susceptible to the dust. I offer the comment as a veteran of the 1st Infantry Brigade, 5th Infantry Division (Mechanized) in Quang Tri Province, RVN with a year of seeing and tasting red dust at its best! GREAT video.

Thanks for the comment, I did a M48 the way you describe, I did a little research based from the Vietnam AK magazine and KZbin videos. I guess After building a number of Vietnam era armour models I thought it would be different. I appreciate the feedback especially as you were there.🙂

@@lawrencereid9375 thanks, I didn’t take your comments as negative, I can tell the positive spirit they are given unlike some I get. One think about the M48, you may notice a slight error with the sprocket/ drive wheel that is now corrected. Its due to the way I paint the wheels then fit to the hull, The instructions are usually filed away at that point .🙂 thats for watching my stuff. Some of my followers struggle getting materials etc so I do try to keep dio materials to a minimum, but its getting harder to do. 👍👍👍

They equipped the 1/77 Armor battalion that was part of our mechanized infantry brigade in Vietnam. M-60s we’re too heavy to operate effectively in country. I am thoroughly enjoying your videos including the tutorials. Always looking for tips and techniques as you offer to improve results. I just happen to be working on a Tamiya M-551 of my own at this time in advance of ICM’s new AH-1 Cobra which is next in the queue. You might say I’m in a Vietnam state of mind but wish I had not been the ONLY G.I. In Vietnam who did not have a quality 35mm camera while there. I would have had several million shots of my own of ALL the equipment and weapons I closely observed while there. Cheers, friend.

what a lot of M551 builders don't realize is that we did not use standard busell rack due to be so small and not useable...we would have steel rods bent and we would handmake our own to hold tons of 5o cal rounds....it din't work to use the straps on the turent side as designed either. but love this model a gread job!!! looks so real...I served with A Troop 3/4 Cav 25th ID 69/70

Tamiya really screwed up by not including the more common rear turret basket complete with netting that was seen on most 551's in Vietnam. Instead they only provide a folded partial frame. For the price paid I expect more.

@@ctscalemodellinguk Ya at least the Academy got the turret basket right at the expense of figures. Id rather have the basket because an after market basket costs almost as much as the Tamiya kit. The only other option is ET's photo etch set that has a Vetnam basket.
