GImbal Walk TV revisits Sheringham in Norfolk. One of the best seaside towns in England and where you will find a lovely promenade, heritage steam railway, shops and colourful beach huts.
Sheringham, on the Deep History Coast, is a traditional seaside town with an award winning family friendly beach, heritage steam railway, shops selling local produce and fantastic coastal and countryside walks.
Sheringham was once an old fishing village and that heritage is still evident today in museums and on murals that decorate the promenade. Sheringham’s Blue Flag beach is family friendly offers scenic walks along the promenade, which houses a row of colourful beach huts. The pebble beach reveals sand when the tide is out and the large boulders lining the beach make for great rock pooling. There are some fantastic facilities including beach hut hire and there are showers and WCs on the promenade.
Sheringham is also on the Deep History Coast Discovery Trail and has its own Discovery Point. Make sure you take a look at the decorated water tank just by Sheringham Museum. In the town, you will find pubs, cafes, tea rooms, museums and a theatre, as well as plenty of accommodation. In the centre of Sheringham is the town clock, built on the site of an 1862 water well. A market is held on Saturdays throughout the year and Wednesdays from April to November.
The town’s name is Scandinavian origin and has the meaning, The Ham of Scira’s people. In 900AD, Vikings first settled in Sheringham and it is thought that Scira may have been a Viking warlord who was given the land as a reward for his performance in battle. This history is celebrated with the annual Viking Festival each winter most popular for its impressive ceremonial boat-burning finale on the beach. Sheringham has many other carnivals and festivals all year round including the famous Crab & Lobster Festival and North Norfolk Railways' Steam Gala in the Autumn.
Nearby is the National Trust’s Sheringham Park, with miles of hilly countryside covered with gorse and purple heather and offers superb sea views. Great views are also found at the top of Beeston Bump, a large grassy hill which is 103m tall and was formed at the end of the ice age. Sheringham is an ideal base for a traditonal seaside family holiday or weekend break to enjoy the north Norfolk coast and countryside.
Sheringhams whole vibe is so much better than Cromer, but most holidaymakers head to Cromer for reasons us locals cant understand! Sheringhams beach feels more upmarket, is clean, has more interesting little corners to explore.
Sheringham is a traditional seaside town, which grew up around its old fishing village, and a few little boats still bring in the daily catch. Sheringham is home of the North Norfolk Railway (The Poppy Line), which operates steam train rides to Holt. Sea, cliffs, fine sands and bracing air are some of the reasons why Sheringham is so popular.
Among the glories of the area are the surrounding woods of Upper Sheringham (including Sheringham Park), with views over the sea, and miles of bracken-covered undulating uplands, covered with golden gorse and purple heather. The town of Sheringham is anything but the monotonous strip, with the promenade running in and out of the low cliffs, while steps and slopes connect it with the town above.
Sheringham has plenty of facilities, including many interesting shops, pubs, restaurants and tea rooms. There is a popular twice weekly market on Wednesday's and Saturday's, that attract many to the town. Sheringham accommodation includes a good selection of cottages, hotels and bed and breakfast. Sheringham is an ideal base for a seaside family holiday or weekend break.

I live in Northrepps , just outside of Cromer. Overstrand is by far the best North Norfolk secret 😁. The main town's are too full of people paying no attention to roads or traffic, something I'll never understand! I don't go on holiday and just aimlessly walk about the roads asking to be run over 🤣🤣
