Even in the old books Sherlock was fond of shooting cocaine. Quite frequently in fact.Not really surprising since it was freely available and legal when they were written.

Watson’s limp as stated as psychosomatic, meaning that it’s not through physical injury that causes the limp but inner conflict and stress although Watson was shot in the shoulder ( in the books it was his leg). His interactions with Sherlock and the adrenaline and action he misses from the war made him forget he limped.
@user-yo4bo5ww2y3 жыл бұрын
That is only half true, Ser Arthur Conan Doyle actually changed that a lot of times, in the first books it was leg but in the later books he changed it on the arm. So by my opinion they did it really great because it made this two type of watson match in one.

Responding to your comments about seeing the story of how they met for the first time. The story of their first meeting is faithfully adapted from the first Holmes novel "A Study in Scarlet." However this book is rarely adapted for TV or cinema because of its awkward structure - the first half of the book deals with the murder and Holmes' investigation in London, while the second half tells the backstory that motivated the crime, and is set in a Mormon community in Utah. The Holmes novel "The Valley of Fear" is similarly structured, so is also rarely adapted. The name of the criminal in the book is Jefferson Hope, and it's interesting that the show uses the name "Jeff" in the credits for the killer.

In this show Sherlock is addicted to cigarettes, in the novels he is addicted to opium (apparently it wasn't uncommon in that time in England, although it was considered an ugly vice), but he only consumed it when he didn't have an interesting case, because he needed something to keep his mind occupied. I don't understand why they changed that for a drug that doesn't have a similar effect, to be honest. One thing they do mantain here is that Mycroft is smarter and better at deduction that Sherlock. But while he is very lazy and unadventurous, Sherlock is extremely active and adventurous. So Mycroft uses his habilities to direct England's intelligence agencies from an office, and Sherlock goes out and risks his life on the street solving murders. I have read all the novels and this is a good adaptation, and a good show in general (at least the first two seasons). The cases are different to the original ones but there are lots of references to the novels.

He's not just addicted to nicotine. If it was just nicotine, they wouldn't have searched his room for drugs and Sherlock wouldn't have given Watson that look and said "you probably wanna shut up now" when Watson was saying that Sherlock wouldn't be a junkie. They don't say it outright but it's heavily implied that he is addicted to heroin or something of that caliber. Nicotine is just another addiction that he sometimes indulges in.

This episode is so well crafted, I still love it. There are a few points I absolutely loathe so I have mixed feelings about the show, but I've always identified heavily with Sherlock because I'm like him - so the 'high functioning sociopath' thing really bothers me. It's just wrong. Maybe that's what he wants to be, numb to emotion, but Sherlock obviously feels emotion very deeply. Speaking from personal experience, of course.

My all-time favorite show. Discovered it on PBS because I caught the "Doctor Who" production quality (yeah, I'm that hardcore :)) and watched the rest of the season I caught, No. 3, the so-called "bad" season. By the end of that season, I was obsessed. By the time I saw 1 and 2.....I had no words--other than my complete love for Molly, particularly when he slapped the s#%t out of him! LOL!!!! I LOVED "The Abominable Bride," and the long-awaited Four had me in withdrawal when it finally came. I gave up on 5 before Una Stubbs died, so now...well, this lifelong Marvel Zombie just enjoys Benedict's Strangeness. ;) I can't stomach "Elementary," a really good show, and I forget the RDJ movies as soon as I see them. To use a term popularized by a film franchise, I'm *completely* imprinted on "Sherlock." (I even own the "SHERLOCKED" Tee :)) I can't wait to see your reactions to the entire run and I hope you have great Fall theories!

For me, the ranking of the seasons are Season 2> Season 1> Season 3>>>>>> Season 4 The first two seasons are masterful. Season 3 is decent, but the last episode is amazing. And season 4 is a huge disappointment. I believe by the time season 4 was being filmed, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman had limited time on the set because they became big stars in Hollywood (Doctor Strange, The Hobbit, Fargo, etc.), so the showrunners had to rush the story.
