And he tries to conceal his hurt. It is funny and sad. Poor Holmes. XDD

He wasn't the best Holmes. He *was* Holmes.

That sigh is so wonderfully understated. Mr Brett and Mr Gray, the best Holmes Brothers ever to come to screen. (Apologies, Messieurs Cushing and Fry.)

Stephen Fry has the disadvantage of playing in an original screen script (even tho Guy Richie stays true to the spirit of canon).

Sherlock: "That's father's magnifying glass..." Mycroft (thinks it): "Well, you got mother's violin so that makes us even..." Sherlock: "How ironic, excuse me..." Lol, it's true though, Google it...;) - type up, Sherlock Holmes mother's violin.

Practically, Holmes father gave it to mycroft as a way to appreciate his more detailed nature compared to Sharelock because in a way, mycroft was much logical and detailed oriented the sherlock in comparison!!!!

Holmes: Watson, Mycroft is being so unfair!

I was just imagining what Watson's reply would be. Probably an eye roll. LOL

This scene was fabulously acted. Both Brett and Gray had the most perfect voices, the epitome of subtlety. And the sparest of movement, mannerisms, and tone.❤

Hopkins really doesn't want to be there.

This is the Holmes i grew up to. The best! Hope your heart rests in peace now, Jeremy.

Perhaps he gave it to him in the hope that merely possessing it would spur him to make use of it; like a father giving his son a baseball and glove in the hope that he'll become an athlete.

Mycroft got fathers magnifying glass. Sherlock got mothers violin. They both got a special heirloom from there parents but it still hurt Sherlock. Or just the natural fact seeing it brought back memories and saddened him. (Jeremy looks ill in this episode)

As the world's foremost consulting detective, he might feel entitled. On the other hand, their father may have believed that Sherlock already had one that was superior.

This is all fabricated as Mycroft is not in the original story. It is Watson with him during this episode. No idea why they put Mycroft. Also Brett thought they needed more Mrs. Hudson in all episodes so she shows up here and not in the story.
@hollyturner41863 жыл бұрын
They made the substitution because Ted was unavailable for the filming. Of course, they also substituted Mycroft in place of Sherlock in The Mazarin Stone because Jeremy was too ill. Charles Grey was a godsend!
@johnwirenius81529 ай бұрын
With Ted unavailable, it makes a lot of sense to use Mycroft; we get one of the only intimates of Holmes other than Watson; Brett and Gray have excellent chemistry, and they’re both formidable and hilarious at once.

(I think Ted was shooting “Shadowlands” with Anthony Hopkins at the time.)
