I don't necessarily ship it (I have embraced it, yes) but you can't deny Sherlock definitely loves John. And while not sexually/romantically, Johnlock are soul mates through and through (soul mates aren't always a couple)

I agree. These two obviously love each other and are much more invested in each other's lives than casual friends would be, without needing to add anything "more" than what's already there for that to count. I don't personally see their relationship as romantic, but that doesn't make their bond any less meaningful and caring. They inspire each other to be better men than they would be on their own and I do believe they belong together, even if what they have doesn't quite fit the traditional categories by which we try to define relationships.

Terry S what is "closer than normal" for brothers? to me the relationship with siblings is unique and special in itself (at least as long as none of them are assholes), nothing closer can be imagined. (bc they are there for your whole life - different from lovers, parents, children and friends. a good sibling will never turn their backs on each other, etc, so.. and this is "normal siblings" in my experience)

I'm one of the few Johnlock shippers that absolutely loved Mary, I feel. She knew how important they were to each other, and felt comfortable enough to get them back into the swing of things again. Soon enough, it became the three of them together, with Sherlock loving Mary as much or almost as much as John. That being said... Season 4 was dark as fuck. But Mary was there, once again, to be the bridge. While I'm sad about what happened, you've gotta admit that John and Sherlock are not literally raising a kid together because of her. (COME ON. I feel the same way! It really makes me upset when people hate on Mary or Molly because it's "getting in the way of Johnlock". I came to really appreciate Mary's character and when she revealed that she lied about her ENTIRE identity, I was upset and thought it was wrong, but understood that she was just trying to find a way to leave her past behind. It really destroyed me when she was shot and all she could think about was how much she respected Sherlock, loved John, and wished for Rosie to be happy. It really showed that she was more than just some manipulative sociopath like people make her out to be (even though she does tend to act like one from time to time). I also really love Molly. She's a very sweet, good-hearted, and considerate young woman who tends to be socially awkward, which I guess can happen to people who work in a morgue. I once found a series of Johnlock oneshots and saw that one of the antagonists in the oneshots was Molly. I thought, "Ok, that's...interesting," and wanted to know what everyone else thought of it. Upon reading the comments, I was shocked to see how many people actually said they hated Molly and Mary, it just didn't make sense to me. It's just strange how people can people can hate a person or people because they get in the way of their personal ship.

Well, there are loud rumblings of a fourth episode being held in reserve. They probably want some space between TFP and ep 4, so I hope it comes in the summer rather than next New Year. Did you see Louise Brealey's pics of her made up with Sherlock's hair, in his thinking pose? That sound like The Empty House to me. Here's hoping for Johnlock in 2017. (I wasn't happy with the lack of Johnlock either. It would have been too much to cram into the Eurus arc, though. One separate ep to follow up would be perfect timing to get it in)

One of my favorites is when he starts answering a question saying Sherlock is asexual, then rambles on about Sherlock only caring about the work and protecting his heart from sentiment, and ends up saying that that doesn't make him asexual lol.

He said Sherlock avoids sex for a reason because it would get in the way of his work, and not because he doesn't experienced sexual attraction or desire. personally i think that sherlock and john are very gay, but i do agree that sherlock is asexual that being said, i don't think he is sex-repulsed, as in his fake relationship with janine, they seemed to have had sex so basically in my interpretation, sherlock and john are in love with each other, but john very much wants to hide it if they were teenagers on tumblr, i think sherlock would probably identify as a grey- or demi-panromantic asexual that isn't sex-repulsed (actually, taking into account his personality, he'd probably just be like "yeah i'll love whoever tf i want fuck you and your labels they are literally pointless") and john as bisexual (though if he is lgbt+ it's clearly a touchy subject for him) i rambled a bit there but yeah that's my take

I do however ship Johnlock more than Destiel because of the fact there are less episodes in Sherlock and that means most of the show can be conceived as Johnlock scenes, while Castiel only came in on season four and sometimes not in all the episodes after this. I feel like Johnlock has more potential in becoming canon because of the fact they are together in every episode.

My feeling is that Holmes is asexual (as discussed in one of this channel's previous videos), but he and Watson are definitely soulmates. What kind of soulmates is debatable, though: I could see Holmes being asexual but still capable of romantic feelings (there's a lot of variation among ace people - some crave romantic relationships as much as anyone else, just not sex, and might even enjoy kissing etc.) and the two of them being a romantic couple. But I can also see them just being platonic soulmates, or maybe something like what some aromantic asexuals call a 'queerplatonic' bond (basically, life partners in a way that's different from most friendships, but not in a romantic way.) But there are lots of interpretations that I could probably enjoy, if they were done well.

a little ashamed of my fellow fans's behaviour as addressed, in this video, although attacking noobs for lack of intense knowledge, while also shameful, isn't something unique to the Sherlock fandom. As for favourite adaptation, it's Sherlock. And although I don't mind idea itself of femme!Watson, I actually hate Elementary more than any other adaptation. The Jude Law film also wasn't original or interesting enough to grab my attention. I do plan on reading the original novels though, as I'm generally open to the various versions of older stories; I feel similarly about Doctor Who and Star Trek (though I haven't seen beyond TOS, I've seen both reboot, and original series/movies). btw, totally in love with Demisexual Johnlock now. As far as other interpretations to their relationship, are there many more than the three you mentioned at the start? If there's very many, is there a list?

Let us not forget those sh!tty people in our fandom who hate certain things in the show and deliberately spread misinformation so others are tricked into it as well. I actually had to flag someone on Tumblr for starting drama over the fact that the Sherlock/Molly kiss was only Anderson's theory. She had actually made a massive post about how Johnlock was sick when the show gave 'viable proof' that Sherlolly was fact. So many new people to the fandom had exclaimed that they wouldn't continue watching the show anymore if that happened and some even dropped from the fandom altogether. It was hell. Those types of fans p!ss me off.

I'm pretty sure Sherlock never met Mary in the stories/books - John married her when Holmes was 'dead' and she died after a couple of years before Holmes returned. I'd have to reread the original works but I remember thinking it was very convenient that John was married and then she died and then Sherlock returns from the dead. Also, I don't like the modern take on Irene Adler (that she was a love interest for Holmes) which is not in the original stories.

I do really like Johnlock.... I was curious, though, since this video went into a brief discussion of asexuality, demisexuality, and demiromanticism (and the Bughead video went into asexuality and aromanticism as well), could you do one regarding Destiel? I know there's already a Destiel video, but I don't remember much discussion of how different Destiel shippers think of the ship (bi!Dean, poly!Dean, pan!Dean, ace!Cas, asexual and panromantic!Cas, etc.), or any discussion of how Cas being an angel (and thus genderless) impacts the ship (agender!Cas, genderfluid!Cas, etc.).

One of my favourite interpretations of Sherlock Holmes and Watson comes from an interactive fiction game called A Study in Steampunk, which is basically a Holmes pastiche with the doctor as the main character. The names of the characters are changed, however, the player choses the name of Watson and Sherlock's counterpart is called Garret Finch, and since it is inspired on several works of fiction it's arguable if you can really call it a Sherlock Holmes interpretation. However, an interesting fact is that, it being an interactive fiction game, the player is able to choose who the main characters ends up with, and there are three potential romantic interests: -A Mary counterpart called Grace. -An Irene Adler counterpart called Alexandra. -And of course, Sherlock's counterpant, Garret Finch. If anyone is interested in a new spin on Sherlock Holmes stories, I would recommend it, it's on Steam and it's a really enjoyable game.

I do ship Johnlock, I see Sherlock as gay-ace (because everyone who's known Sherlock for a long time seems to see him as attracted to guys and he never tries to deny it and because I don't think Sherlock would like being sexual with someone) and John as bi/pan (since he likes to point out that he's "not actually gay"), but I also really like the concept of them just having a very strong friendship. Unrelated to that (I really mean it) I never liked Mary. Apart from the Christmas scene (actually not even there) she just appears very unloving towards John. And (in my very own opinion) she just isn't a likeable character. I really don't mind her death, actually. Does anyone feel me on that topic?

Yep, that's my opinion of Mary as well. Not knocking Amanda, as I think she did a fantastic job with the material she was given, but the character was a mess. Making the character who tried to murder your lead into the narrator role warmly sending the boys off into the sunset was not well done, and I found it insulting to all of the fans, regardless if they had any pairing in mind or not. My personal opinion is that the show runners became close friends with Amanda, as you can clearly tell from all the behind-the-scenes stuff with her in them and none of the other actors (not counting Gatiss, since his role was much more as a showrunner), and beefed up her role to spend more time with her, but that was to the detriment of the story and show. She was set up as the villain at the end of season 3, and that was just abandoned for TAB/season 4.

My fave is actually the Soviet-era Russian language series of movies. I believe that Vasily Livanov was Holmes. The great thing about these is that while the relationship onscreen is clearly addressed as platonic, male-male friendships in Russia are much more physically affectionate then anywhere else in the world, so Holmes and Watson are just so chummy. It makes it easy to both see the romance but also the deep friendship thats there. Plus, Watson has a nice butt.

I saw a video once that someone made titled "the sherlolly kiss and why it works!" Or something like that, back before I knew sherlolly was an actual ship. This was a wake up call to me that not everyone shares my opinions (Johnlock is my OTP) but unfortunately I did not take it well, I regrettably, left a rude comment about how their video did not make sense and was showcasing a clip of a ship that was being made fun of by the writers. I feel bad now for acting rashly, and defending or rather, pushing my views of the show on someone else. I wish that "shipping wars" would be not such a bid deal within fandoms (as their are more important issues in the world) and that people didn't fight so much over it. Let's just enjoy our fandoms as a community and just respect other people's opinions opinions about it, like I should have done.

I personally love all renditions of them XD. I had watched the re-runs of the original Sherlock holms with my grandma, she loved Sherlock haha. From black and White movies, to the old show. I could see 'subtle' hints of a pairing in those, but never considered them a couple. It wasn't until watching BBC's Sherlock that I began to see them as a 'pairing'. Also, love Robert Downy Jr.'s version too XD, just...yeah it's like watching a Steampunkish Sherlock which is awesome. XD Also, as for AU's I did read an interesting Hogwarts fic about these two XD... Also, could you..maybe do Merthur? Or...Soriku? (if you do games lol, if not, can I still suggest Merthur?) ...oh! or MorGwen? 8D (Morgana x Gwen? ) :D

I'm a huge fan of their dynamic. So shipping them was almost no hesitation. I did however have to check this out because there are SO MANY factors that come with shipping them. The best friend nature of it, the semi-romantic nature, the deep care they hold for each other. I ship it both romantically and platonically. Though I can say that it does bother me a great deal that fans are this crazy about shipping it. People need to understand that it is not their creation, though we can play with it how we please base off the canon, we should not try to force our desires to be canon. I hate how rude people can be. Mary as a character, deserves so much respect, even when regarding her mistakes. Sherlock has made similar mistakes, and both care so deeply for John it would be wrong to ignore her part as vital. All I'm saying is for people to please consider their place in all of this. Having a fandom and shipping is fun and can be really cool for both following fans and the creators. And being bloody rude about that canon of it makes it hard for fans and shippers, and can put many in an awkward position. With that being said, cheers. To Johnlock.
