this is the only scene among all episodes in which, Holmes compassionately gets angry against oppression of his client

Interesting contradiction here. The original story is almost a spoof of the melodramatic. It's a very short span of time: Watson is called to Holmes' deathbed, Holmes babbles deliriously, and then asks him to fetch the evil doctor. After another scene or two, the mystery is solved. The whole thing is actually quite funny and improbable. Here the scriptwriters struggle to make it more probable, but in doing so make it intentionally and whole-heartedly melodramatic. The adaptation is okay, but it could have been devastatingly brilliant by staying close to the razor-sharp story.

Have you heard the BBC Radio 4 version ?, I think it's a much better version of this particular story. Brett is otherwise very good

@@chislehurstbat yes, he was a very good Sherlock Holmes. That is sad that he died …and he was not even that old….My mother didn’t like to watch fiction but when she was hurting from the lingering pain of shingles, she was willing to watch it with me -and she loved it. We watched most of them together! So I bought the complete set of Sherlock Holmes on DVD with Jeremy Brett…. and I have good memories from that. My mother died suddenly while shopping at a Walmart last year so those fun memories we had together (laughing at the extra ordinary expressions of Holmes and his wonderful outbursts and etc…) ….are precious.

Brett ruined Sherlock Holmes... by playing the iconic and stoic "very-Brittish" character as an insufferably spoiled, barking every line, diva-vampire-drag-queen. Sadly made the show unwatchable for me. Pretending to die on the couch was his one good moment as his over-the-top hammy-acting accidentally served the story.

@@avicennitegh1377 He's an actor who made a prissy mockery of Sherlock Holmes in nearly every moment the was on screen. His performances were that of a theater-ham, insufferably chewing the scenery... he yelled every line like a deranged maniac looking for attention no matter how simple it was, and slathered himself in ghoolish white makeup against an all black costume like some sort of gothic drag queen. I can't stomach rewatching any of his shows... he was by far the worst portrayal of the iconic character, being too obsessed with himself and "stealing every scene" to respect the character who was calm, intelligent, reserved, deliberate, strong, and masculine.
