Absolute genius on the part of Eugene Deckers as Harry Crocker. His portrayal lent a lighthearted humor to the episode that even softened the characters of Holmes, Watson and Lestrade to a bit of comic relief.

He is a very versatile actor, truly. Love the many faces and characters he has shown through the series. A lot of talent among the character actors. That is one of the most fun things to do: see if i can pick them out as they change from one episode to another.

Eugene Deckers (portraying Harry Crocker) was priceless in this episode. I was laughing and laughing so hard at Inspector Lestrade bumbling around. Comedy is deceivingly difficult to pull off well. Thank you for posting this fun and charming episode for us. I really like Howard and Crawford together.

Linda Rocco Favorite episode with the humor injected into a pretty good storyline. Deckers is very entertaining in all the episodes in which he appears. One of the funnier parts in the Harry Crocker episode was near the end with Harry reminiscing about his escape-artist father. 😂

@@tpatl6284 Thanks Tad. I just watched it again after receiving your comments. Hilarious indeed. Yes, how his father could escape from the locked basket.... except for the last time they dumped him in the river. I'm so glad you enjoyed it as much as I did. Thanks for responding.

This, without doubt, is the slipperiest case that Sherlock Holmes has faced - ever. In fact, I think he even surmises himself how slippery this case is. And as for dear old Watson, to say he is completely mystified from start to finish is a beautiful example of understatement found only in the English detective story, especially from that era.

This is only the 4th episode of this series I've seen and Eugene Deckers was in both of them. Since he was a murderer Holmes convicted in the other one, who cleverly escaped from prison, I assumed he was playing the same character here. So, I was surprised to find he was innocent. I should know better because I've seen enough 50s and 60s shows to know they recycle actors quite frequently.

Asking those who have seen the episodes of this series in order: is there a ztrajectory in Lestrade's attitude towards Holmes? I'm watching the episodes here ojn KZbin in a random order, and what I see is that in some episodes Lestrade seems to be in awe of Holmes, and apparently has no problems associating himself with Holmes and letting him actively engaging in police matters (in short,: he treats Holmes as a friend and quasi colleague), in other episodes he seems not to like him at all, and tries to distance himself from him, wanting him as far from police matters as possible (in other words, he treats Holmes as an enemy or a nuisance). Does it have a nice arc when I watch the episodes in order?
