Conan Doyle laid his own paper chase before he wrote his stories. Hence it was easy to " solve" the case, seeing as he knew where it was leading from the very start . Smart, but not exactly brilliant. Anybody could apply the same tactic when writing who done its. It's formula. Try it with a short story of your own. Just for the fun of it .
