Sorensen, the first year DC, lack of experience as a play caller was on full display. He seemed to only know that a particular scheme fits a particular down and distance. Sorensen doesn't understand tactics. How does he not understand football is a game of matchups. The best receiver isn't covered by your best DBs!?!? It's as if Sorensen simply looked at the Xs and Os on the white board then concludes; Ok, if an X receiver is in the slot in this particular offensive set, I have two safety down here that can cover X receiver, OK, good. A generic game plan produced a defense that could not get off the field on so many 3rd and long downs. It ALLOWED a 97 yard TD bomb because Sorensen's game plan didn't account for the opposing team's talent vs his game plan. Is there enough time to fix the D?

That’s what drives me nuts sometimes about this team. They shoot themselves in the foot more than anyone in the league. Me sitting on my couch can tell you to always put your best players in against their best players at all times if capable. Boom 97 yard pass, what did you expect? Super Bowl, “ hey let’s not block the best interior lineman in the league” boom lose Super Bowl. Offensive pass blocking and Defensive lines are issues. Long gone are the days we use to have a dominant D line. Signed it away when we gave Bosa the contract.

Calling a zero blitz at the end of a half is negligent, while having a simple matchup error is just minor incompetence. They had two guys on Jefferson and they didn't execute. You could argue that Sorenson should have seen that matchup and called a timeout, but I think the stronger argument is that the 49ers have personnel issues at safety. They basically have nothing but box safeties who can't cover.

Sorenson and Staley are not good that’s already clear. We are terrible on third down conversion rate and our run defense is clearly still not that good even with the additions on d line my god the trenches we aren’t good this team isn’t Super Bowl caliber and they are injury prone. They had their shot to win it Kyle and his boys choked 2 of them away FIRE KYLE

I don't understand why you don't double cover Jefferson all day and play coverage everywhere else. Defensive coordinator should be fired. Nick Sorenson and Brandon Staley are bad.

Under the Synder/Shanahan regime the Niners in my opinion has been a team of "overachievers". They do not have the talent like previous Niner teams. The 97 yard TD pass that the Niners gave up was inexcusable. This is the kind of thing that happens when there is a general lack of talent. With regards to CMC Shanahan ran him like a plow horse last season. Often times I said to myself last year that CMC is not going to have much in the tank for next season. Low in behold I am correct. Brock Purdy has the makings of a great QB but he is not surrounded with good talent. If the Niners go 8-8 this season they will have a "good year."

In a situation when a team is backed up on their own endzone, you should be weary of a deep ball attempt (especially with JJ). The safety’s one job is to not get beat over the top, and he gets beat by 5 yards easily. Sooooo frustrating, JJ will always remember that one.

Disagree, lack of pass rush No Lenoir or Ward on JJ Shows me we have a DC who needs his vitals checked, cause Shanahan might’ve choked him out after that game with the drive to bleed the clock, and the 97 yard TD.

@@leocriss6354 it was definitely an epic failure not covering Jefferson with a cornerback and using essentially 2 safeties, one of which came late on the play. But the thing with football and it only being week 2 , they have time to fix that. That doesn't make Minnesota suddenly more talented and experienced than the 49ers. They overall got beat but make no mistake the 49ers are a better team , period.
