One bit of advice: When you move, just hang out at home for a few days. Pets become very habituated to their surroundings, and Sherpa's likely going to be a bit disoriented at first, especially since he's an "old man." Give him a chance to become acclimated to his new home before resuming your gallivanting across the countryside. When my parents moved with their older dog, she wandered off which was very out of character for her. My dad drove around town for hours looking for her. He found her a couple of miles from the house, very confused and frightened. So maybe confine your travels at first to walks on lead around the neighborhood. I'm sure Sherpa will enjoy greeting his new neighbors!

Right on! My German Shepherd was 6 when we moved and i thought she was going to die. She had a super high fever and wasn't acting right the first night there. My mom had the idea to give her some dramamine and get some water down her gullet. She slept it off and was a wee bit better. We continued to give her Dramamine for a few nights so she was plenty rested. Then she realized she was in paradise and was so happy.

I'll tell you what I told my own son. Buy the very best you can afford and treat it well. You can always upgrade later if you have to. If you buy cheap, then you'll replace it a half a dozen times over to "save money'. Congrats to you both.

Area rugs are definitely the best idea. You can put a nonslip pad underneath to stabilize it/them. If you out carpet in, it will mess up your lovely wood floors

Another option for carpet...most carpet stores have large remnants leftover from installations...they can custom cut the size you want and bind the edges to make an area or room size rug/carpet...you can get the padding for under it too...might be a cheaper option then some area rugs and you could cover a whole room without the damage of an installation!

Hi, Sherpie! Jaime, one of the first mistakes that first time home buyers make is buying an entire house of new furniture. You should keep a bit of money for any issues such as a tax bill, plumbing or any type of house repairs that weren't caught by the inspection. Buying a house last year nearly sent me into a nervous breakdown. Sent my anxiety through the roof, was refreshing my emails a million times a day. Couldn’t sleep. Was bloody awful! Took ages. We put the offer in on 29th June and didn’t complete until 8th December! Good luck with it all, you’ll get there!

Waiting on lawyers to do their job is frustrating, I know Jamie, I used to work for them😂 But hang in there and the time will come. I love watching Sherpy swimming in his watering hole and seeing the fish swim around him🥰 The furniture is very nice Jamie and just getting a few rugs or runners where he walks may be a lot better than covering those beautiful floors. If i move, i have a day-box for the first evening and morning in the new house. i.e. coffee ofcourse;) 1 set of clean clothes,shampoo, all you need for the first time waking up at your new house. And ofcourse, lots and lots of snacks for Sherpie!

Regarding furniture: As someone who has been through all this before, I would like to share some advice. Rather than buy brand new furniture, for HARD furniture, things like bedroom sets, dining room sets, etc. , things which don't have much stuffing in which bugs could hide, look at antique shops or second hand shops. You can usually find very nice sets, much better made than the new stuff, at lower prices than what you would pay for the new furniture. This foes not apply to stuffed furniture like sofas, stuffed chairs, recliners, etc. in which insect pests can lurk. You don't want to take that chance.

Second hand everything!! Environmentally and pocketbook smart. I love looking for second hand, unique and fun options. Older items are often made much better than todays furniture.

Here in The States ( my state). Once the offer is made with quick settlement accepted you can request a fast settlement within 30 days. Building a house is even more stressful. Been there done that.

Some bird feeders have a squirrel shield cone on top so that the birds can eat in peace. You could try looking for something like that to buy.

In case it helps, some rug / carpet stores can/will put rubber backing on area rugs, to provide nonslip option and also so liquid doesn't damage the floors underneath. Wouldn't hurt to ask.
