With everyone stuck at home, I bet a lot of people are addressing long-deferred tasks of getting their cherished copper pots retinned. I have a little blacksmith shop so will try DYI. Main problem is getting really old oxidized crud off so the tin can flow and adhere.

Thank your for your video Sir! I can't tell you how much it means to see a talented craftsman at work. This really is something awesome to see in light of how most stuff is made today coming out of China, and when it breaks, it's cheaper to throw it away and get another cheap "non-heritage" piece of crap from China. I would rather pay a little more, get better or maintain better quality product, and support a professional craftsman who's always hard at work!!

Please give me all your copper pans so I can have them silver lined!!!! Gorgeous work and collection!!! I am in love with Mauviel pans!! I found 3 total in a thrift shop for $5 each lol... Someone did not know what they were! 2 of them are the super older heavy guage before they used mauviel 1830 stamps.. I am guessing it is the 3.3 mm stuff....Just Mauviel.. made in france... No 1830 part..My small 7 inch saucepan weighs a whopping 4.1 lbs lol!!! I am looking for the silver lined stuff...

Just buff out your copper pans using Flitz metal polish or any other and a table mounted buffing wheel. So easy. Don't ask this grouchy old man who does not respond.

Hi sir, you’re truly an artist. Is tin lined safe to eat from ? Does it leech any harmful chemicals etc. Is the queens food made in this type of cookware ? Also does the queen use a copper tin lined kettle for tea water? Thanks if any one can spare some knowledge 💙👍🏻

Hi Nick, great video! Would you mind sharing what kind of abrasive wheel you use to remove the tin? I've been searching all over for something similar to remove tin solder from some old copper roofing & finials, but everything I get is either too rough and gouges the copper, or is too soft and just buffs the tin rather than removes it. I'd really appreciate any advice you could give!

hello. i have a 1942 to 1945 boy scout steel mess kit. everything but the cooking pan was tinned. the tin coating is in very rough shape and in order to use it i have to remove the tin and i was just going to season it like the pan. but i have no idea how to remove the tin. i used a stainless steel scouring pad but to no avail. do you have a way to remove tin from steel that you would be willing to share?

Wow, I was just on this video for the very same reason! I have the same mess kit, and the tin coating is real bad, tarnish and wear. Did you ever get your mess kit cleaned up? If so, what did you find that worked out for you?
@carls.6746
@carls.6746 2 жыл бұрын
@@Moroni108 i did not. the reason is because i later found out that because most of all the good steel was taken for the war effort these kits where made using low quality steel that would leech nastiness into the food thus why it was tinned. unless you can find someone that can re-tin it for you i would not use it. however it at least came with a decent carbon steel pan that can be used after a proper seasoning. good luck and sorry for the bad news.
@Moroni108
@Moroni108 2 жыл бұрын
@@carls.6746 Wow, I totally appreciate your response. You know, now that you mention that, I was toying with the idea of just replace the carbon steel fry pan onto an 1960's BSA quality aluminum kit. They fit because I checked. The set would be lighter and generally a fry pan is what is used for concerning the higher cooking temperatures. Thank you!
@carls.6746
@carls.6746 2 жыл бұрын
@@Moroni108 your welcome. i would also like to warn, when it comes to the aluminum not to cook acidic stuff in it such as tomato sauce and lemon juice etc. thats why i was hoping the steel pot was in good condition. i would also use plastic utensils on the plate as to further limit aluminum intake. ive been thinking about looking for a titanium pot that will fit. whatever you decide i hope it works out as or better then intended.
