@careerofbeingblue Clarence originally wrote the song but it was on Carlos Santana's album Shaman in 2002. It wasn't until '04 that Clarence released it on The Clarence Greenwood Recordings.

I don't think she was trying to outshine the original. Imitation is said to be the best compliment that one artist can give to another. This cover was probably meant to compliment Citizen Cope's song rather then surpassing his ability. I think he would be flattered to hear her version. I'm not even a fan of hers but this whole "She sucks. She'll never live up to him." thing is a bit annoying. (I love Citizen Cope BTW.)

Her covers are so unnecessary. She isn't terrible but she brings nothing new to the table, a good cover has it's own spin on the song,. Also this really lacks the emotion and her voice just doesn't fit. No reason to listen to this over the original.
