Soak Up the Sun came out when I was 13 years old. That year - 7th grade - I was bullied so horribly and relentlessly. But then one day I saw the video for the song on VH1, and somehow I started feeling better. It helped get me through the rest of that year, in particular the line, "Every time I feel lame, I'm looking up." To this day, I listen to it when I'm feeling down and it helps me get back into that positive mindset.

@willp.81208 ай бұрын
@@brennickler When you are young you think an average lifespan is longer than it actually is. It is just different.
@willp.81208 ай бұрын
@@brennickler I will be a little more specific. In your 20s, it feels like you have a lot of time left to live, but honestly it is just a couple more decades left than your 40s. Twenty years passes fast and the idea that life is long is an illusion. However, when you are young because you haven't lived as long, you don't perceive how quickly fleeting time goes by, particularly before the age of 25. In your 20s, despite life being short, relatively speaking, you do have more time to pursue your goals in life, whatever they may be. In your 40s, if you are hit with an injury and recover, but have lost your career in the process, it is harder to get someone to hire you or to start a new career. In your 20s, your hormonal levels are very high, dopamine, testosterone, etc., and coupled with new experiences, life seems much more like an exciting experience. The feelings of love a man experiences and emotional bond to a woman during these days is very strong. By the time you are in your 30s, a man is less needy for constant affection. This loss of need for affection has to do with why young women see older men as more confident and less needy. This individualistic confidence and less need for affirmation is even more attractive to women as you get older, as long as you take care of yourself and aren't bald. That said, not being seen as attractive isn't an issue for me as I am happily married. The 20s are really only the beginnings of wisdom into more deeper spiritual matters of the Christian faith. You also gain an understanding by the time you are 40 of just how corrupt and evil this current world is, including many of those in high positions. You better see how the media, governments, etc. are all controlled by the same evil forces and it is why despite us voting their agenda continues on. Times were also better in the past. People were friendlier, more willing to help others, there wasn't as much blatant propaganda in the media, it was just much more subtle, not were insane far left ideological viewpoints anything more than a fringe that wasn't taken seriously by many. Television and movies were better. They focused on more plot, were more original in their story lines, and they weren't trying to push any kind of social agenda. The quality of the music was more real using actual musical instruments instead of synthesizers. Overall, it is a combination of differences between age and the changes in the world that have taken place.

this was my twin brother's fav song when we were little - i lost him to brain cancer when we were 18 and this is the song we played at his funeral. it was beautiful and everyone sang along - it's been hard to hear it since but i allowed myself today. lots of crying but i really do love this song and i forget how much i need it!

Oh my goodness. I didn't even know your brother, but now I'm crying... then laughing at myself because I'm an emotional sap, but also crying for how simultaneously sad and beautiful it is that this song was played at his funeral. I love this song and I love what you shared. Thank you for doing so. Sorry for your loss. He sounded like a beautiful soul since this was his favorite song. 😊

Man it’s crazy how old this song was , when I was a little girl me and my friend Angie , used to always listen to this song on her pink radio in her room . She loved this song . I got addicted to it when I was younger . And a couple of months ago I just started to sing it randomly . Kept saying “I’m gonna soak up the sun, I’m gonna tell everyone to lighten up” that’s all I could remember and I started remember so old memories of me and my childhood best friend just laying in her bed our feet in the air laughing just smiling singing this song . It’s always put me in a good mood . So I downloaded it when I finally found who sung it . She’s so pretty I love her voice , I think today was my first time seeing the music video . Wow 10 years ago, I’ve always wanted to travel to find my long lost childhood best friend Angie . So Angie if you see this , it’s me Mariah . Remember we used to live in Las Vegas together?😭❤️🙏🏾

Every time I hear this song, I just picture myself in May/June of 2002, when I was 10 and about to finish 4th grade. I picture myself riding the bus home from school with the windows down on a beautiful sunny day, and being so excited about school almost being out, and knowing that the next year I'd be a 5th grader and rule the school. Oh, the memories. I wish I could go back...

SHeryl seems to be a wonderful person inside and out. I'd love to meet her today and talk about her music and influences and anecdotes about the greats she has performed with including Willie Nelson when they both sang "Today I Started Loving You Again" to Merle Haggard at the Kennedy Center live. One of the most beautiful duets you will ever see and hear. They both perform wonderfully together!
