@JudasMugensson5 жыл бұрын
Donut mod is probably going to be the only remake this game sees, I think there are a lot of legal issues of making an official remaster/remake for commercial use. Not to mention that Fox needs to approve it and willing to fund it if not a Kickstarter. I love SHAR, it's one of my top 5 favorite games of all time and a proper official remake would be amazing but I think they'd try to screw us over with loot boxes and microtransactions judging by the Simpsons tapped out and other games that they've released in the last years.
@ProxyWasTaken5 жыл бұрын
@@mellow9042 I kinda doubt this is getting remake. Game being made today requires big resources, in other words it has to be big bet. And since Simpsons is definitely not popular by far like it was 15 years ago, the sales will probably be even lower than this particular game. Not trying to get you down or anything, I would love it too, but I am trying to see it realistic.
@Graknorke5 жыл бұрын
@@ProxyWasTaken While I don't think a remake is likely, a game doesn't _have to_ cost that much to make. It's the kind of industry conventional wisdom for things that are guaranteed to sell, but plenty of games have smaller budgets and do fine.
@ProxyWasTaken5 жыл бұрын
@@Graknorke That completely depends on the game, but even indie games can come very expensive to go for. My point is, what do you expect budget for this was? Do you think they are would need bigger budget for a new game? I think so. Do you think it would reach better sales than last one? I don't think so. Maybe it would be a good on fans, if they decided to make it themselves and get an permission, license etc. But othewise, the market is about money, and this won't make much more money. It's sad this game was a victim of crunch. I found out the other day the reason why there was only 3 areas in the game and the last level was cut in half was because the developers ran out of time. Still nevermind, this game was still a major part of my childhood and I wouldn't have it any other way. Thanks for doing this, it was interesting to see how the world looked off screen and how the developers handled the game. Now it's on to other games and hopefully eventually, The Simpsons Game.

It's funny at the end when Cary mentions how he is surprised how many people remember this game, because yeah Hit And Run was a formative game for me as well. I was in 7th grade at the time and went through a horrible anxiety/depression attack after watching an apocalyptic horror movie at the wrong age and the two things which got me through it were daytime cartoons (mostly cartoon network) and Simpson Hit and Run even though I had never watched the Simpsons before. I forgot how or why I even had the game, but for months it was the only game in my Xbox and I'd play it all the time during my depression. Actually, I remember being at my grandmas house looking out the window and imagining the apocalypse and undead and chaos breaking out and I'd run to the Xbox and just playing Hit And Run until I got over it. For some reason no other game did it for me, maybe it was because it was based off a cartoon but to this day I thank that game for getting me over that period. One day I need to go back and re-play it because it was a ton of fun even though I had no idea what The Simpsons were. Even though I became a bigger fan of Futurama I still liked the Simpsons and wonder if I will enjoy the game more now that I am almost 30. So thanks Cary Brisebois, and the whole team. Was one hell of a fun game!

3:50 this memory constraint might’ve been seen as a hindrance but I feel it was the requisite conditions for creativity to thrive. They had an obstacle to overcome and the game benefited from them being forced to face the issue head on. Now there aren’t really any limits and the issues come with too many options and creativity goes into the wrong aspects of the design while the core is ignored.

3:03 If I remember rightly, Lisa is there because that’s where the interior of the school is, but it doesn’t get loaded into the game until you walk up to the exterior door - if you drive/walk up to the door then quickly pan the camera over to that area, you should be able to see that Lisa is now standing in the school hallway

Hit & Run was a truly amazing game for its time, it was way past any other game in terms of complexity and map size. Remember there wasn't any KZbin tutorials back then xD

@@user-ul5gi9yw9t Right but no one got paid at the best you would be sponsored by machinima and you got 1p per sub, so the vids were always close to useless because no time or editing would be put into them, and no not at the start there was nothing, ive gamed hardcore throughout the past 15 years.
@user-ul5gi9yw9t5 жыл бұрын
Its Freddie Machinina wasn’t *that bad* if you became a partner they paid quite decent at the time. When they released MachininaRespawn was when they really took advantage as people would simply submit videos to upload for “exposure” I had 2 S&D Black Ops commentaries posted onto Respawn, got around 150k views on both within a month and got absolutely no return apart from 200 subs. So right tho, times have changed massively. I remember when Respawn had a few million subscribers and was literally the only place to find new content for a long long time Edit: Respawn and Machinima did however pioneer the platform as we know it today, commentaries that weren’t even live recorded were actually a thing for a while 😳

@@user-ul5gi9yw9t No you didn't you got fuckall, my friend irl was a professional montage maker at the time, got paid to make sniping clips way before any clans like Faze even existed. Super awesome to hear from someone behind the scenes. Many games have credits with lengths to rival big-budget movies and it's nice to see some recognition for everyone that makes these potentially lifechanging experiences happen. Hit & Run isn't quite that for me but it's definitely an amazing Simpsons game (except the Halloween level, fuck THAT shit :p) and a welcome part of my collection :D
