It's actually insanity. Even beyond spongebob which had a couple good games, he bought crap shoot after crapshoot after crapshoot after crapshoot after crapshoot. I feel like he was primed to want shit with all those licensed games his parents got him early on. I can't believe he came out of this experience actually enjoying video games hahahaha.

It’s genuinely a miracle that Scott actually grew up to like video games when there’s like 5 good games in a 2 hour video
@phoenixwright784
@phoenixwright784 Жыл бұрын
It's crazy what you're willing to deal with as a kid. Like I owned a bunch of games as a kid. Probably more good games then scott did... But I also owned games like Zoop and spiderman and X-men arcades revenge which were not good games in the least (well, arcade's revenge ain't good. I dunno what the general opinion on Zoop is but I never liked it ) but I still popped them in plenty 'cause I owned them so I might as well play them. I could delete my file in A Link to the Past and probably get more outta it then space football or lethal weapon but I still popped those games in from time to time despite never enjoying them. And honestly, it seems like most of the "bad games" that scott had were just bland and mediocre. Meanwhile I also owned an atari 2600 and while I did have plenty of good games on that like Ms. Pacman and River Raid... I also owned E.T. so I don't think scott did that bad with his childhood collection lol.

@@aniyilator Eh. If I remember correctly, I got it alongside Q*bert, Frogger, and Yars revenge at goodwill. I think they were some of the last atari games I got. As a kid I thought Yars Revenge was broken every time I played it, but Q*bert was decent and Frogger's always great so not all was lost. I also own like, 2 copies of the atari port of Pacman which I actually despise more than E.T. At least E.T. had an excuse for being garbage...

Its very cute but also big only child energy, only children gotta entertain themselves. Parents can't just yell go outside and play with your siblings when they didn't provide any. The parents also have more money to spend making the kid more "spoiled" and toy rich. 1/6 siblings being obsessed with video games looks more antisocial than the only child who would be playing alone in the corner regardless. Games are also a massive source of fights to bigger families lol

@@dustojnikhummer I thought the female variant of a cousin is a couisine? Or a coucos? Incredibly bad math jokes aside, I think the confusion stems from Scott having mentioned a male cousin (as used "he") that he played with multiple times, but obviously he can have multiple cousins. And considering how much he must've absorbed the virginity of those around him, his uncles and aunts must have had a lot of sex over the years.

I've also rewatched this video serval times and it was a video that I wanted after watching the "RPG guy" special I would say it's interesting seeing Scott's childhood gaming history after hearing him talk about gaming history in general and I am hoping we get a follow up video to this one where he keeps going from the age of 14 to maybe when he is 20 because I would interested to see what happens next

The way that Scott writes videos about his childhood seriously, seriously gave me non-existent, albeit parallel feelings of nostalgia to his. The length of an afternoon in front of a TV screen, the lamenting how much you stayed in your comfort zone, the unhealthy attachment to nickelodeon that had no reason lasting for as long as it did, the sensations of playing multiplayer games all by yourself, the casuality of friendship then - Scott - you write about childhood very accurately and leave truly no stone unturned.

Scott and I are the same age and I’m realizing that having an older sibling really saved me from the licensed video game curse. I just basically inherited a library of games and consoles and I’m so thankful I didn’t have to build my own collection bc I’m 100% positive it would’ve been all SpongeBob as well.

Having an older sibling effects all media youre exposed too, its crazy. I'm 21 and people my age talk about watching first gen Nick and Disney shows, having a VHS collection and gameboys. Never saw those things in my house because I was the first child

@Minkfang Upon reading your comment, honestly same. I'm 23 and the oldest of 3 siblings. I think my cousins kept me in touch with a lot of the early childhood cartoons and VHS memories I have, but I certainly felt there was a barrier for me in terms of video games that I wasn't able to cross for years. As the oldest, I was a pioneer of the DS and Wii for my sister, and was teased with a Game Boy Color in 2010. I later found a SNES at a hotel's lost and found and convinced my parents to ask thr owners to let me keep it. The 90's were something I never got to inherit from older siblings, which is why the late 2000's media feels like home to me.

Only child here and a little less than a year younger than Scott and wow I'm glad I wasn't sucked into the licensed game hole too much. Sure, I owned Hot Wheels World Race and Cars the video game, but most of my other GameCube titles were all first party. I played Mario Sunshine at a McDonald's, saw an ad for the MP7 and GameCube bundle and wanted that for Christmas since I knew Sunshine was played on a GameCube and I thought MP7 was Sunshine. Come to my surprise it wasn't, so my dad ran out to Toys R Us before the end of the year to pick up Sunshine for me after I got the video game title from the back of my GameCube box. But playing Mario Party encouraged me to get the other Mario Parties for GameCube at used video game stores and one of those trips my mom suggested I buy Paper Mario TTYD and although I had provided some pushback it was an amazing suggestion. I was a Mario fanboy throughout as most of the video games I had were Mario games cuz I knew they were always a good time, but at least it saved me from the shovelware of GameCube and Wii games some kids got cuz the games were cheaper than a first party Nintendo game.

I was screaming at the video the entire time like "OH MY GOD SCOTT GET A REAL GAME ALREADY JESUS!" When he was hyping up his new Mario game for the DS, I was getting so excited but alas, it was Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis. My heart was instantly shattered. But when all hope was lost and things were looking down, he finally got Super Mario Galaxy for the Nintendo Wii. I was so happy when he got Mario Galaxy. All of my troubles and worries went away. My heart grew three times its size, and I instantly returned all the gifts in Whoville.

@@leonro Yeah, there's still a good number of really cool ones still, but a lot of ones nowdays feel rather basic and boring. Need more like Xenoblade DE, NieR Automata, GOW 2018, Cuphead, because there are some that are painfully boring, GGST has one of the worst Title Screens I've seen in my life, in a series about bold visual direction it's a static almost silent title screen that takes a minute to load. Definitely some great ones still, but not as many consistently cool/creative ones, however not a dead art, I must say I woefully mourn the creativity of 2000s DVD Main Menus, the Shrek 2 DVD was so damn good because of it's one and the many bonus goodies, you can tell they had a lot of fun making it.

I think on a personal level, this video concept is actually something amazing. Scott essentially listed his video game-associated childhood memories with great detail in video format, making it something that he can watch throughout his life and reminisce on, as he gets older and memories begin to gradually fade.

@@tuscan4174 yeah unfortunately the existentialism is a product of my own perspective on the video. I’m only a year older than Scott, and I wish I could remember this much detail about the games I played, where I got them, who I played them with, and the memories we shared. I can’t help but think about the fact that I’m 27 now and i probably have lost a small portion of my childhood memories forever already, and it’s not going to get any better. It’s just great that Scott can look back at this at any point in life and easily be reminded of all the great memories video games gifted him
