My very first Thanksgiving, my very first turkey. In the late 80's you couldn't just pull up videos of how to do things, so I went about (what I thought) was cleaning the turkey. Put it in the oven. A few hours later was talking to my dad on the phone. He asked me what I was going to do with the neck and the gizzards and stuff. I told him I didn't think my turkey came with that. It did, I found them later, inside a bag, on the inside of my roasted turkey.

Me too! Couldn't understand why it was taking so long to cook because even though the turkey fully defrosted, that stuff must have stayed frozen!

Pie crust is so easy here is my great grandma( babas) 5c flour 1lb Lard 1 1/4cup ginger ale or 7up. Mix it all together by hand. If you want more flakey crust just put a lil less ginger ale /7up. It’s fail proof so easy. So cheap.

My Holiday Blooper 😂😂😂: We were invited to a family get together and we were in charge of bringing cabbage rolls. We always make the huge single serving size cabbage rolls and we usually use toothpicks to hold them together while they bake up. So my mother and I had a huge assembly line going and we manage to get two huge roaster pans full of cabbage rolls. We brought them to the party and I tried one (she wouldn't let me touch any at home! Lol) and it tasted weird. It was then I realized..... WE USED MINT TOOTHPICKS TO HOLD THE ROLLS TOGETHER! 😭😂. Two giant pans of mint flavoured cabbage rolls.... Yeah... Not the most popular dish at the party that night 😂😂😂😂😂😩😩😩😩😩😩.

When I was in college my roommate and I were throwing a St. Patrick's day party(we lived off campus in an apartment). I was making my sugar cut out cookies. Well we were chatting and I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. Measured out what I thought was salt. It wasn't it was pepper! We picked out as much as we could got the salt in there and carried on. I was so nervous that people were going to complain. Well the guy I was dating his younger brothers ate those things up, they couldn't stop eating them. My roommate and I just sat there and giggled and never said anything!!

One of my go to's for a quick dessert is a fruit cobbler. My go to recipe is from an Amish-Mennonite cookbook and uses 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of fruit (I've used everything from fresh fruit to pie filling) and a few other ingredients. I just basically dump everything in my casserole and bake. Quick, easy and delicious! I call it my cuppa-cuppa-cuppa cobbler, lol. I think I'll make those pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving this year! I have a chronic illness and if I gradually work on a pie here and a pie there as I can, I will be ready! Thanks for the inspiration!

The next year we were preparing Christmas dinner, I had boiled 20 lbs of potatoes, half for mashed and half for potato salad, she mashed them allll!! Haha! We had plenty of potato pancakes that following week! Such fun memories! We love to tease her and especially my granddaughter. We we used to do pumpkin both Thanksgiving and Christmas, but now with the kids grown with families of their own we try to get together sometime in December to celebrate Christmas. We focus more on the goodies and don’t even do a dinner. The kids vote for something simple and if we can all be together it will be pizza - they decided that last year. I use Pillsbury crusts as well. I can make a good pie crust, but it just speeds things up and less mess. Nobody know unless you tell them. 😉 I used to make a lot of pies for Thanksgiving and used pre-made, always receiving compliments on the pie crusts. One year our daughter saw the boxes in the trash and spilled the beans. We all had a good laugh. 😆. Oh, the memories. 🥰 Thanks you for the video, Kimmy. Lot of good info. I am going to try Ma’s roll recipe. Haven’t tried it yet. 😃

In the South you have more sweet potato pie as opposed to pumpkin. It's basically the same ingredients but you use sweet potato instead of pumpkin. The filling for sweet potato pie has a little more texture and is lighter and more airy whereas pumpkin pie is creamier and a little more dense. Unfortunately my family likes neither so I don't get to make them. Hopefully I'll get a slice at another get together during the holidays! Love you and your precious family. Happy Holidays from Alabama! :-)

The first thanksgiving dinner I ever cooked I had a few little issues, mostly with the turkey. Let’s just say I learnt a lot. Like the thawing process takes a long time.
