Though I’m not LDS, I’m so grateful to LDS for all the excellent information they share with anyone interested in preparedness. 30 years ago, before it was a thing, I learned how to prepare for a year using LDS resources. It withstood many personal, local and national emergencies/disasters.

I guarantee to you, "prepardness" was a thing well over 30 years ago. Living in northern Maine, everyone up here practices preparedness, but no one knows what a prepper is. It's a hard life here, 40 below zero before wind chill is not easy without being ready for it. We lose power for weeks. When I say weeks, I mean 4 + weeks. It doesn't blink on and off either. Its out.

That is how I was when I started canning. I was so scared I bought the All American because of the screw-down top bolts, the no need to replace a rubber gasket, and the ability to use it on a fire if I had to. As I got more comfortable with pressure canning I was no longer afraid of my canner or canning. Now I pressure can and water bath can on a regular basis. Last week I made pickle relish as someone gave me 10 cucumbers from their garden. It was only 5 jars but, it 5 I don't have to buy from the store.

Canning: Suttons Daze, and The Kneady Homesteader. I watch them, they both have how to videos from beginning to end. Jars and lids are scarce. All canning supplies are scarce. Jar lifter to grab jars out of the canner. Actually for about $20, you can buy a kit with the canning utensils you need. I've been canning for over a year and constantly learning new things. I have all 3 of those books you showed. I use them constantly. I can something every week. Do your reaearch on canners and stoves! Don't assume you can just put a presto canner on any heat source and everything will be good, because you can't. Pressure canning isn't difficult, but you need patience and no distractions. You also can't leave the room to go do something else while its processing for an hour and a half. I just love you and I know you have anxiety, I have anxiety too at times. I have to pressure can when nothing else needs my attention. A quick note on food preps. Are you aware of what is happening with the farmers here and overseas? There maybe a tomato shortage. Cans are hard to find, so Italy threw out rotten tomatoes already. The drought here is causing lots of food not growing. Shortages may be soon. You mentioned ketchup. Ketchup may be one of those shortages. I stocked up on canning meat, cherry pie filling (yes I made my own), broths and jams. Whatever is in season and on sale, I buy and jar it up. For the month, I'm planning on canning Blueberry pie filling and whatever else that comes out of the garden. Do you have a garden? Take care dear!

Canning veggies and such can seem daunting at first. When you buy a new pressure canner, it comes with a booklet of instructions and is very helpful. We actually have two of them, the oldest one we have belonged to my husbands late grandfather. We also water bath can too. If you are starting out, you can find at walmart in the canning section a box with everything you need the grabber, funnel, lid lifter etc. Do not buy lids off amazon as tons of people got scammed with lids that didn't work. We can lots of stuff such as several different kinds of pickles, green beans and jelly. One year our local store had 50 lb bags of potatoes on sale for like $5. I got two of them and we canned them. They worked great in stews. We peeled and cut them into chunks, added water and a little salt. When I went to use them, I would drain them, refill the jar with water, shake, drain and repeat to get out all the starch that settles in them. If you want to can tomatoes I recommend the SauceMaster, we found ours at Tractor Supply. You can buy different screens that will take out the seeds. If you want to can in the house, turn on your fan over the stove to pull out a lot of the heat. It's not recommended to use a glass top stove to can on. We do it from time to time but it takes so long to heat up, so we tend to do most of ours outside. In fact when we redo our deck, as soon as lumber prices go down, we plan on enclosing ours and making a canning kitchen outside. Of course here in Oklahoma it's going to be hot as heck, but we will add fans and such.

Kim, water storage is so important. I have a well, and during our last major windstorm, we were without power for 6 days. No power, no water pump. There are 3 of us, and we went through 40 gallons of bottled water during that week. I was shocked at how much we used, even being really careful with it. Immediately, after the first day of the crisis, there was no water to be had at the local stores. It was a good learning experience.

Instant Pot Max is the only model that has a specific canning function. A regular instant pot does not get up to the kill zone for the right amount of time. Rosered Homestead has a great video where she tests it with a scientific tool. She recently tested the electric Presto Pressure Canner too.

A word to the wise. If you plan to do a lot of canning, have a range top or stove top that is not glass. We found out the hard way that the elements under the glass burn out quickly and need to be replaced. After a lot of searching we found a stove top that had the metal spiral elements at Lowe's. Still had to drive about 90 + miles to get it. No problems since. Who knows how long the replacement elements for the glass tops will be available.

Instant Pots are not approved for pressure canning. They have a canner button but it only meets requirements for foods that can be water bath canned. (Basically working like a steam canner). It just doesn't have the pressure regulation needed to guarantee safe pressure canning processing. Presto just came out with a digital pressure canner that does meet the requirements for pressure canning though. That's an option for those that don't want to use a stove top pressure canner.

Just came up on my prepping feed #tadlifegoals, love the vid, new sub, looking forward to more. For ppl in smaller places/apartments, look at using gallon distilled water bottles for storage, theres nothing in the water to go bad, theyre small, so you can fit them in nooks and crannies all over, they might be a bit more per gallon, but when you factor in buying a water storage tank, hardware, the wood like she was talking about, it gets pretty close to even. Also can use in car/vehicle batteries/barter, etc. tons of uses. Yes, some ppl will mention salt/minerals, you're likely eating enough already, if it worries you, store some spirulina/moringa tablets/powder, you should anyway, theyre natures multi vitamin and a buffer if you have some garden mishaps. Cheers thanks for the channel XD

Now is the time to buy - I bought my 921 in Jan 2020 for $279 and I just that the price is up to $399. I thought I’d buy a 910 for small batches or leftovers and it’s $299 now!

@@beachblond1968 I have the 921, and recently splurged on the smaller 915… the 910 is too small IMO , the 915 is exactly like the 921, just no double up on the pints..so with both I can do 14 quarts now..a double batch easy enough ! And 26 pints, which could be 3 batches worth for some recipes etc..if you’re going for a second.. I highly advise the 915!

@@MrsStevenBrown Thank you - l’ll check it out! I watch Linda’s Pantry videos and she recently used a 910 - I thought it looked perfect for me. Maybe I need several… 😅

Is peanut butter good beyond the best buy date? Can it be frozen? Just wondering how everyone handles their peanut butter. From time to time I see folks buying 10 jars of peanut butter but I haven't heard anyone saying anything about how long it lasts. Thanks for your help everyone!

I have never canned before. I am hoping to learn this summer. What kind of outside stove do you use? Our home already gets really hot. So I would like to try canning outside.

Starting to see Canning Jars & Lids coming into stock at Walmart, Target, Trac tug or Supply, Menard's, Hardware Stores like Ace and Grocery stores. Know your needs and current personal supply stock, so you know what to pickup when you see it.

There’s an instant pot that is specifically made for canning now and there’s a lady who completely tested its temperature and what not and she’s at a high altitude, wish I could remember who it was.

I live in South Central Texas. Food prices have really been going up and hardly any good sales here.

I am really suprised that you are still buying bottled water instead of using a water filter to purify your water such as a Berkey. You might want to look further into this. David at LDSPrepper channel has put out several videos on the subject and is very knowledgeable on this topic.

PS-The high elevation can make IP canning unsafe. Be sure to check your elevation to determine safe pressure and time.

It those refillable 5 gal jugs made of hard plastic. I just recently started buying them but I bought the 3 gal. Only .25 cents a gal to refill. We have well way are will a water softner so we don’t drink that water as you shouldn’t unless you have a reverse osmosis system. I stock up in water for Hurricane season.
