I had a lady look at me funny last week when I picked up my pre-order of BBQ sauce and mustard for the year. Sweet baby Ray was on sale here too. The lady asked why I needed so much. I told her it's what we go through in a year. I even pulled out my planner that had our list of what we go through yearly. She was shocked at how detailed my list was. I told her with us owning a lawn care business I know down to a tee of how much we go through. I get in the habit now everytime I go to the store I pick up something for long term storage. It has become a habit and picking up an extra gallon or 2 of water as well.

@@vee_888 because 6 maybe to 7 months out of the year is the only time we have coming in. And doing snow removal where we live is not a guarantee. So if it's on sale I will buy a years worth during the working month. Just in case we have no income in the winter months.

None of the Baking soda brands have aluminum that I've ever seen. Yes, some brands of baking powder does have aluminum in it. You can find brands at most stores that don't. Rumsford is the first brand that comes to mind for me. Clabber girl does have aluminum in it.

Hi Jackie, I just wanted to say great work on canning that ground beef! As you get more comfortable with the meat canning process you will see so many benefits to having shelf-stable meat in your pantry. You can use canned pork for shredded pork sandwiches, canned chicken for soup or chicken salad, canned beef roasts for soup or just simply as a roast alongside some veggies, etc. Keep up the good work!

Great video as always. Well, we live in Fla. I am going through major arthritis problems & caregiver for 2 family members. We have a small deep freezer, but it was not enough. This is where we are after 2 yrs! 1) My bedroom closet is now our " canning closet". I have no clothes LOL. We have learned to can during Covid ( bought 2 canners). We have a metal 5 shelf garage unit ( had to assemble IN THE CLOSET)!!! 2). My bedroom ( I am widowed) we have another shelf unit that is in progress. It holds cereal, grits, oatmeal, syrups, boxes of stuffing, rice a roni, mac & cheese, all canned good soups, veggies, fruit, chicken, tuna, & staples. Due to re-arrange this weekend. 3). WE BOUGHT A STAND UP FREEZER!! OM....we immediately made tons of 9x13 meals ( thx to you). We have Crock pot meals. Chicken breasts were just on sale, so I have to get busy making more. Our small one now is for milk, cheeses, breads, turkeys & hams. We shop at Winn Dixie here & get points. Now up to $120. We keep it going all year, then at holidays...BAM!!! Yes, it is much work & many do not take it seriously. We have learned better! Our hall closet is all water. We have foldable storage bags ( thanks homestead Tessie) which holds four, sugar, tea bags, spice packets, snacks, noodle packets, tuna packets & so much more that has been put in food saver bags ( researched). My closet also has egg crates full of sugar, flour, tea bags ( food saver). I have frozen eggs which is a HUGH help! So....there is my story thus far. sales on Mayo ect during 4th...yep. Thank you for all your wonderful videos. Love n Blessings from 92 degree Fl.

Last month I concentrated on water and stocking my freezer because we had just moved several states. This month it's going to be dried milk, my 13 yo's safe foods (crackers, popcorn, rice, chips, sunflower butter, and amish made sour cherry jam) since she's autistic and having ran out of most of those items just not going to the store for two weeks has caused issues with how much she's eating again and her stressing out about her own food security long term... of course I'll also be working on my garden, learning more about gardening and canning, relearning how to bake bread, as well as gathering the wild flowers and plants currently in season for my jams, jellies, wines, meads, and teas ... the funny thing was that baking soda, baking powder, lemon juice, yeast, flours, and rice were all on my grocery list for this week before I even watched this video!!

When I was learning how to make bread I'd put the ingredients in the bread machine and then when it got to the knead cycle I'd stop the machine and knead by hand. Learn how it feels, let it rise like normal and bake in the oven. It was less intimidating and then I eventually started making it without the bread machine. It's pretty easy once you get used to it.

In early May, we stocked up on meats, before the prices went crazy and topped off our chest freezer almost to the point where it could not close and about filled about 1/3 of the upright. Both of them run on solar with commercial power and generator backup so am settled with not losing meat if we have a power outage or hurricane. Didn't know you could freeze yeast, though that would kill it. We have 1 brick in the 'fridge but I'll get a few more to freeze. Saw a good way to store flour. Put a few pounds into lunch bags, fold the tops offer and put the lunch bags in food saver bags. Throw in an 300cc oxygen scavenger then suck the air out/seal the bag with a seal-a-meal. Put those into one of those black plastic totes from home depot to absolutely keep out the light and bingo. We have our rice store 2 ways. Some is stored in 1 QT Seal a Meal bags, sealed with O2 scavengers and the air removed and the bags sealed with our now ancient Seal a Meal. We pack those in 5 gal buckets or black plastic tubs from Home Depot. The longer term storage rice is in 5 Gallon mylar bags with a couple 1000cc O2 scavengers in 5 or 6 gallon plastic buckets. I seal the mylar bags a little more than 3/4 way across then put the crack tool on our shop-vac, and insert it just inside the mylar bag and turn on the shop vac and let it suck out the bulk of the air in the mylar bag. After about 15 seconds of that, I work a hot Iron across the bag just below where the intake of the vacuum is to seal the bag while the vacuum holds a vacuum on it. This works REALLY WELL sealing the mylar bags with as much air out of them as possible and the O2 scavengers have less "work" to do but still get some of what's left. Turns a mylar bag in a 5 gal bucket into a brick in that bucket.

Would you please share some info on your solar generator? I’m in the market & getting more confused, the more I research!
@NSNorfolk
@NSNorfolk 3 жыл бұрын
@@rettl.9720 We did not put in a so called “Solar Generator.” That name is a misnomer. Most so-called “Solar Generators” are just mid-sized batteries, a single 50-100W solar panel, inverter and a charge controller. They can run small loads for a day but then, need an unloaded day to re-charge. We have an off grid, 48V system. It is made up of 8 - 315W panels, a Midnight Solar #200 charge controller, and a 2.5 KW, 48V inverter. Each bank of 4 panels is wired in series to give about 130V and the 2 banks of 4 panels each are wired in parallel. That yields around 130V at about 18 amps into the MPPT Charge controller. The high voltage reduces “I squared R” losses in the cabling from the panels to the charge controller even though we use #2 welding cable. I have 16, 115AH 6V golf cart batteries wired in series and then in parallel for 2 banks of 8 each. These which will run our loads for about 48 hours. The panels harvest enough power to run our loads and charge the batteries by about noon each day. Write back if you have more questions;,we might share e-mail addresses and I would be happy to send pictures. Know that even doing the work yourself, it’s going to cost some $$. Ours was about 8 grand. The design part was straight forward, I’m a P.E. Electrical Engineer and also did the grunt work myself. Suggest you ground mount the panels!!! It’s easy to build a frame which adjusts in azimuth so the array (s) can track the seasons. Look real hard at LG Neon 2 panels. They are almost 20% efficient.

I was like it's canner season people buy that sugar, or sugar replacements, & canner jel get those berries in jam & freeze those doughs so get yeast. Don't wait til fall unless u have the space to freeze those berries. Ps soda & juices can go into jellies so please hit a Kroger get pineapple pop you will thank me. As lso it's time to start vinegars & mustards infuse those herbs & it takes a bit of time to make those vinegars. Ask a farmer if they are selling their red or gluten free Milo. Many are. My sister in laws have started to do milo & wheat sales straight from the field. & Find the equipment you need at garage sales, a great food processor can grind, and knead bread if you just don't have the energy. Buy seeds to donate to fall- winter low income blessing boxes or seed start clubs They are really only avail now to donate later. Or buy envelopes to remind you to save you seeds from your bounty. Every seed you donate can assist a new grower or group growers to self sustaining food production.

Hi 🙋🏻‍♀️, when you do your food storage stock up how do you keep your flours and sugars fresh and free from food bugs , And your pastas and grains , and cereals , chips , ? . If I put mine in plastic bags it helps . But not for long term storage . We have central air so inside our home is cool . But we still have problems . And our home 🏡 is very clean . But we still get some food bugs . There like a small fly 🪰 and I always seal everything tightly . Never leaving it open till I’am ready to use it ? . It’s weird ? . I don’t use the basement that much because it’s hard to get up and down the stairs with my legs after hip surgery about 6 yrs back . I can do it but it’s hard . So my pantry is off the kitchen now it’s a pantry / laundry room . lots if shelving plenty of storage and plenty of room for the washer and dryer . Plus it’s just off the kitchen so it’s a win , win for us . No climbing down stairs to do laundry or get to the pantry ty . lol my legs are not what they used to be . It’s just more convenient for us all . But I’am trying what you said Valerie at food storage . Maybe she has some info . And any from you to would be helpful ty , 😁👍👩‍🍳🙋🏻‍♀️Sharon
