Stef, a coloured Falabella x was sent to us for some retraining. He had been to another trainer but his owner said he became scared of noise behind him so sent him to us. After doing some training with him, and building his confidence, we drove him as the leader in a unicorn, in front of a pair of shetland mares. This film shows his very first time as a leader and his first ever time as a unicorn (we had previously driven him as a single only). Driving him as part of a unicorn turnout shows that he is no longer worried about noise behind him, as here he not only has the rattle of the carriage to contend with, but also the noise from 2 other ponies close behind him, and the clanking of a swingle tree (due to it being a leader bar on the pole head, it moves around more than if it were attached to a set of shafts). This can be unnerving to a lot of horses or ponies as it is not something they experience, and even when driving in company they don't experience other horses that close behind them. Being driven as part of a multiple can benefit their training by building their confidence with a new experience.
