Anyone else notice that Pyra's initial twin tail design also had lines on her legs and waist that make it look like the joints you usually see on robots? Wonder if they were aiming to make her more of a robot at first like KOS-MOS but scrapped that idea later.

Those actually look like normal ether lines, just with a pink coloration to match the Core Crystal from that period. They're still present on Pyra and Mythra, but only appear during level 3 and 4 specials, and can be easier to see when using the swimsuit costumes. They might've had a different pattern though.

the placeholder "driver" and "blade" assets are interesting. The fact that both have that chain, drawn in a dynamic pose, makes me thing that part of the initial design for the game had said chain to be featured, and those were very early versions of Pyra and Rex, potentially from even before they were thought as the Pyra and Rex we know now. Would be interesting to see the two assets near each other, as that kinda looks like some sort of splash art

I believe the devs have stated that the chain was turned into the blue ether line between blade and driver early in development, so your theory probably isn't far off. I kinda wish they had kept that element (because it looks cool) but blades are already shown to be used as subservient tools by evil people in the world and the chain imagery would just add to that tbh

At 23:28 if those really do represent the different blade elements, then it's interesting since there's 9 palletes there (the base game had 8 elements). The silver/grey one doesn't match any other element, I'm guessing this means that there was a metal element or something similar prior before getting scrapped.

It also raises the question: how would the element type advantages work with 9 elements? In the base game, the way the elements work is that fire beats water while water beats fire. But that would be weird if there's 9 elements. Maybe the elements were arranged in threes rather twos? Like, fire beats ice, ice beats water, and water beats fire? Kinda like some types in Pokemon. Interesting to think about.

9:40 Unless I'm missing something, Kasandra never says this in-game. Makes sense that Nintendo would cut this line to keep up their family friendly image. Especially since XC2 characters are spirits in SSBU. They saved characters that have a sailor mouth for the 3rd installment.

You have good potential as a content creator! In case it matters, a few suggestions: 1. Make this a multi-part miniseries instead of condensing it into one video. 2. Be more consistent with how long you show each piece of concept art. Some were on screen for less than a second, and others had 10 seconds. My wife has a good time watching, but it was frustrating to have to navigate back and pause to see the art. She is looking to cosplay from this game, and those arts make a huge difference. 3. If you have a character voice line playing, let the line play on its own instead of talking over it. Like when showing the character concept designs in the video.

Some of the designs only had one or two images so it was hard for pace them all accordingly but I'll try better for other videos in the future Yeah ill probably do 3 as well, definitely was a struggle trying to balance the audio But thank you for the feedback !!😁😁

Those dummy images for the blade and driver look like they were cut from an early concept sketch for the game. There's a chain on both characters which was probably their early version of the affinity line connecting driver and blade during combat. This kind of insinuates that Drivers were literally chaining their Blades to themselves like slaves... Glad they refined that game aspect and turned it into Affinity.

Dummy Blade and Dummy Driver look like a Monolith Soft staff artist's take on Pyra and Rex, since they would have wanted something to represent them before Saito sent them his designs. They look like they could have been Xenoblade X characters, but they also kinda look like Star Ocean characters to me.

What's interesting to me about Pyra's original design concept is that she used to have ether lines like a normal blade.

Fun fact: this was accurately included in Smash Bros, where their Final Smashes (level 4 Specials), Pyra's side-b, and Mythra's neutral-b (level 3 specials) include their ether lines lighting up.

Yeah, it'd be nice if there had been a way to unlock one of their initial designs, but, as there was no 3d models of each of their initial design created it's unlikely that after so long any possibility of a DLC pack which would have their initial design will be released after several years and its sequel having been released.

Yeah, some of the initial designs were so good that their final design looks pale in comparision. Monolithsoft could have created one of the initial designs as part of an earned reward in the Challenge Mode DLC in one of the most difficult challenges.

Honestly, while I do love Pyra's and Mythra's final designs (and I despise Massive Melee Mythra - the dark grey clashes *hard* with the white and gold symbolising her Light element), I do wish Pyra would've kept the miniskirt from one of her beta designs - skirts *always* look better on girls than shorts, in my opinion.
